Former Sixer Mac McClung agrees to partially guaranteed deal with Orlando Magic

Reigning NBA Dunk Contest champion Mac McClung is officially moving on from the Philadelphia 76ers as he now has a new NBA home.

Tuesday afternoon, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that McClung had agreed to a partially guaranteed contract with the Orlando Magic. It’s an upgrade of a deal for the springy guard who began last season with the Sixers G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, before agreeing to a two-way deal with the Sixers just ahead of his appearance in the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

McClung put on a spectacular showing making the G League proud as he was not only the first G Leaguer to participate, but to win the dunk contest as well.

During his 31-game stint in Delaware with the Blue Coats, McClung was electric, averaging 19.8 points and 4.9 assists while shooting 55.0 percent from the floor and 47.4% from three. While only playing two games with the Sixers last season, McClung still averaged a more than respectable 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. He also shot 45.0 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from three during those games.

The former Texas Tech product now finds himself facing the difficult task of carving himself out a role on a guard-heavy Magic team. With fellow former Sixer Markelle Fultz and No. 6 overall selection Anthony Black expected to both play major roles for Orlando, the opportunity will be earned, not given. McClung will compete with veteran wing Gary Harris and young guards Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony as he looks to establish himself with his new team.
