Jeremy Lin will not play with the select team that will scrimmage against the U.S. Olympic team because of his free agency.
Lin is a restricted free agent, so the New York Knicks can match any offer he receives. Players can't sign new contracts until July 11, the last day the select team will train against the Americans in Las Vegas.
USA Basketball also says Monday that Boston center Greg Stiemsma won't take part because of plantar fasciitis in his foot.
Philadelphia guard Jrue Holiday was added earlier Monday to the squad.

Rockets' bad luck just won't run out
Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is a numbers guy, an MIT guy, a probabilities guy. MIT is the kind of place where you can learn to predict the next face card, not hope for it.
Luck is just nonsense to a guy like Morey, but then there is this:
Last fall, the Rockets had guard Jeremy Lin on their roster, but they cut him because they already had Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic...

Knicks' plan for re-signing Lin could backfire
When Jeremy Lin’s season ended early because of an injury that kept him out of the playoffs for the New York Knicks, “Linsanity” lost a lot of its luster. But when next season starts, I would imagine it will pick up right where it left off. The question is, will that be in New York or somewhere else?
The Knicks have decided to let Lin, a restricted free agent, hit the open...

Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE via Getty ImagesIt has been said before that Jeremy Lin re-signing with the New York Knicks isn’t a given. However, Lin was recently given Bird rights, which gives the Knicks an advantage to re-sign him and go after another player without hurting their salary cap space. However, even with all that, it still isn’t a given.
According to ESPN the Magazine’s...
