The Utah Jazz (24-20) look to get their seventh straight home victory tonight as they host the Houston Rockets (24-22) in a game that could play a big role in playoff seeding later on. Utah is coming off a grueling 114-110 OT victory against Indiana, while Houston enters tonight’s game after beating Brooklyn 119-106 on Saturday. Utah and Houston have split the season series so far with the home team winning easily both times. AccuScore simulations have the Jazz as fairly heavy favorites, with approximately a 63 percent chance at getting the win. The average score after 10,000 simulations is 103-100, but Utah does have a 54 percent chance of covering the -3.5 spread. Taking Utah on the money line (they’re 18-5 straight up in their last 23 games at home against Houston), and going under on the total score (206.5) are probably the two best bets in this game. There’s a 57 percent chance the total stays under 206.5; the total has gone under in 4 of Utah’s last 5 games against Houston. What bothers me from Utah’s last game (even though they won) is the rebounding discrepancy: Indiana out-rebounded Utah 41-28. Utah would have lost any other night, but Indiana helped them out by turning the ball over 22 times (leading to 28 Utah points). Indiana is the second best rebounding team in the league behind Denver (total rebounds), but first in rebounding differential (+4.4). Statistically, Houston is just one rebound per game better than Utah, so it probably won’t be much of a factor. With that said, if Houston does find a way to beat Utah on the boards like Indiana did, Utah’s home winning-streak will come to an end very soon. AccuScore projects Utah to grab 3-4 more rebounds than Houston tonight. Can Randy Foye continue destroying the Rockets? Okay, maybe he’s not “destroying” them, but he definitely steps his game up against them. This season against Houston, Foye is averaging 17 ppg on 55% shooting. On the season, he’s averaging just 11 points on 42% shooting, which is exactly what he’s projected to get tonight. James Harden throws down tomahawk dunk

James Harden had one of the sicker dunks of the NBA season Monday night against the Jazz. Harden drove by two Utah defender and then threw down over Alec Burke. The only thing uglier for the Utah Jazz than this dunk by Harden was that Houston beat them by 45 points.

Gordon Hayward out with right shoulder injury, day-to-day

Gordon Hayward won't play Monday due to a right shoulder injury. The voice of the Utah Jazz, David Locke, tweeted that Hayward is day-to-day. Gordon hayward is out tonight for the Jazz v. Rockets.Listed as day to day going forward — David Locke (@Lockedonsports) January 29, 2013 Gordon Hayward (sprained right shoulder) is OUT tonight vs. Houston. He is day-to-day...

The Frontcourt Change Is Needed In Utah

Both Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap are free agents this offseason. Photo via: Brownsville Herald.  The Utah are sitting comfortably in the seventh slot in the Western Conference at 24-20. For the second straight season, the Jazz are on pace to make the playoffs, and for the second straight season, the Jazz seem like another easy opponent a top four seed could beat on. They...

Rockets Officially Reinstate Royce White

Perhaps the saga can come to a close soon now.  Royce White is once again a member of the Houston Rockets.  He will have to report to the Rockets' D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, but there is every indication that he will be able to work his way to the NBA team. The Rockets released their official statement last night.  It said in part:"The Houston...

Rockets reinstate Royce White

Royce White has been extremely public in his battle with the Rockets to come up with a plan to handle his anxiety disorder. White has an overwhelming fear of flying, so much so that he had requested his team work with him to develop a plan that would manage his disorder while still allowing him to play. Houston seemed willing to do that. Yet, here we are halfway through what would...

Rockets fire on all cylinders in win over Nets

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets are an average team, but they are average in the most tantalizing way. The Rockets never play an average game. They either play great, or they play terribly. Seems like either the Rockets are drilling 3s all night or the other team is. This, perhaps, is an unintended consequence of the way they play. The Rockets like to get out wide and push the pedal...

Rockets-Jazz Preview

The Houston Rockets appear to be back on track after their longest losing streak of the season, but their next challenge will be a difficult one. A third consecutive victory won't come easy Monday night as the Rockets try to prevent the Utah Jazz from a seventh straight home win. Houston (24-22) has won two in a row and three of four after a seven-game skid. The Rockets'...

Shootaround: Contrast of styles

Houston Rockets (24-22) vs. Utah Jazz (24-20) 9 p.m. When you think Utah Jazz, slow and plodding and pick and roll come to mind. While some of these perceptions of who the Jazz are may no longer be true -- they actually run the fewest pick and rolls in the league according to some estimations -- the Jazz are still built around one, sometimes seemingly outdated truth: If...

Harden, Green, and Griffin threw down highlight dunks

The Houston Rockets blow out the Utah Jazz by 45 points but all anyone was talking about after the game was the dunk by the Rockets James Harden. Just before halftime Harden beat his man off the dribble and went to the rim and dunked over Alec Burks. Harden finished the game with 25 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. On Sunday the Boston Celtics beat the defending champs in double...

After a few cuss words directed at your computer monitor, next step is to fixing this problem...
