Over the weekend, legendary point guard Gary Payton was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame. As he joined the greats of the past in basketball immortality, he also had something to say about current affairs in the NBA. According to Lakers Nation, Payton gave his thoughts on some of today’s players and thinks that Kobe Bryant is still the best player in the NBA: “[...] Kobe Bryant, to me, is still the best basketball player in my mind. He played with me and he was in my era. I still love him to death. He’s a little brother to me.” Payton’s statement comes just weeks after Stephon Marbury echoed the same sentiments. At this point in time, most basketball pundits think that LeBron James is the best player in the game today; James has won back-to-back championships and Most Valuable Player awards. Payton and Bryant were teammates for one season in 2003-04. They advanced to the NBA Finals but were eventually defeated by the Detroit Pistons in five games. .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } @media(min-width: 500px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } } @media(min-width: 800px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 336px; height: 280px; } }

Lakers Rumors: Lakers not currently interested in Michael Beasley

There are many pros and cons when it comes to signing Michael Beasley; it seems that the Los Angeles Lakers feel the bad outweighs the good, though – at least right now. According to a tweet from Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers aren’t currently interested in the services of the troubled free agent forward: For now, Lakers do not have interest in Michael Beasley, I hear.— Ramona...

Lakers Tweet ‘Never Forget’ Photo of Kobe Bryant on Anniversary of 9/11, Quickly Delete Tweet

Twitter was loaded with 9/11-themed messages on Wednesday, the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Kobe recalls the first time he met Shaq

Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal are considered by many to be the greatest one-two punch to ever step on a basketball court. Over their eight years together – which were far from easy at times – the pair made four NBA Finals appearances and won three championships, but what was it like when these two NBA legends first met each other? Bryant recently told Jimmy Kimmel that...

Kupchak says he hopes to re-sign both Kobe and Pau next summer

The summer of 2014 should be a big one for the Los Angeles Lakers. For the first time in decades, the team will have heaps of cap space to spend during free agency or in trades. However, they may use a large amount of that to re-sign some of their current players too. During a recent radio interview with Colin Cowherd, general manager Mitch Kupchak revealed that he was not only hoping...

Hoop dreams may be coming to Showtime. The premium cable network is developing a one-hour scripted project that goes behind the scenes of a pro basketball team, with a focus on the family that owns the team. Source: No One Within Lakers Believes They Can Sign LeBron In Free Agency

The history of the Los Angeles Lakers suggests they should be able to bring aboard a major star in 2014, when they could have large salary cap space. Some members of the Lakers' management, however, have long faces -- particularly when it comes to potentially signing LeBron James next summer. "Within the organization there isn't a single person that believes we can bring...

Tracy McGrady claims he could have gotten along with Shaq

In the mid-2000s, the debate among NBA fans was Kobe Bryant or Tracy McGrady. That is not a type-o. McGrady and Bryant were considered on the same level for a long stretch in the 2000s when McGrady was putting up obscene statistics with the Magic and the Rockets and Bryant was putting up obscene numbers with the Lakers. Of course, the argument ender was that Bryant had the championships...
