AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Paul Pierce scored 22 points and the Boston Celtics held off a late comeback to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 106-104 on Sunday and improve to 4-0 since losing Rajon Rondo for the season.
The Clippers had pulled within 103-101 on a 3-pointer by Eric Bledsoe with 56 seconds remaining. But Avery Bradley drew an offensive foul on Los Angeles' Jamal Crawford with 26 seconds to go, and Pierce held on to the ball before making a 3-pointer with 2.5 second left to clinch the win.
The teams played without the point guards voted starters in the All-Star game in Houston on Feb. 17 -- the Clippers' Chris Paul and Rondo.
Jeff Green and Leandro Barbosa scored 14 points each for the Celtics. The Clippers were led by Bledsoe, replacing Paul, and Crawford, who made a 3-pointer at the buzzer, with 23 each.
It was the Celtics' fourth game since Rondo tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Paul sat out his seventh in a row with a bruised right kneecap. The Clippers have lost five of those, including their biggest setback and lowest scoring game of the season, 98-73 at Toronto on Friday night.
The Celtics also are missing rookie forward Jared Sullinger after Friday's season-ending back surgery.
The Clippers trailed by 15 early in the fourth quarter. Then Blake Griffin's free throw began a 15-3 run capped by Crawford's layup that closed the gap to 101-98 with 3:18 remaining.
Jason Terry put Boston up by five points when he beat the 24-second buzzer with a jumper with 1:09 left before Bledsoe made his 3-pointer.
The first half was one of the best of the season for the Celtics, and they headed to the locker room with a 59-40 lead.
They tied their season highs of 33 points after one quarter and 59 after two. And they did it with balanced offense, as 10 players scored between three and nine points.
They had 14 assists on their 20 baskets and just five turnovers in the half. On defense, they held the Clippers to 10 points on 4-for-18 shooting in the second quarter and forced 15 turnovers in the half.
The Clippers didn't score in the second quarter until Lamar Odom made an 11-foot turnaround 4:11 into the period, cutting Boston's lead to 39-32. Bledsoe made their second field goal more than two minutes later.
Notes: Backup Celtics center Jason Collins, playing more because of Sullinger's absence, had a season-high seven points. ... Matt Barnes returned for the Clippers after a one-game suspension for striking Minnesota's Greg Stiemsma on Wednesday. ... The Clippers routed the Celtics 106-77 on Dec. 27 in Los Angeles.

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Pierce doesn’t call the shots, but he does have a preference if his bosses make a move.
“Maybe we can use some more depth at the big spot after losing Sullinger,” Pierce said.
He made it clear, though, that...

BOSTON — Paul Pierce’s shot went through the hoop and the crowd erupted, cheering wildly for a fourth straight victory by the Celtics. Amid the cheers, though, there had to be quite a few folks just sighing in relief, because this game turned out to be a lot more interesting than it had to be.
Before Pierce’s 3-pointer nestled into the net with 2.5 seconds remaining to clinch...
Awesome round of quotes today from Celtics coach Doc Rivers, captain Paul Pierce, and center Kevin Garnett on the ongoing trade rumors that seem to pop up by the day. The most recent round of rumors have Kevin Garnett heading to Los Angeles for Clippers guard Eric Bledsoe and forward Caron Butler. What do the Celtics think of these rumors? Let's start with Doc.
All from (the...
Paul Pierce came up big late against the ClippersI know two things to be true about the 2013 Celtics. The first: If something is too good to be true (ie. a first half offensive explosion and lockdown defense), it likely is. The second: No lead is safe, specifically no lead under 20.Boston tried VERY hard to lose the game in the fourth quarter this afternoon, blowing all but two points...
Perhaps team captain Paul Pierce said it best after last Sunday’s thrilling and gritty 102-100 2OT win over the defending champion Miami Heat on national TV…When told that Rondo had a torn ACL that would sideline him for the season Pierce expressed his frustration and then immediately stated…”Guys are gonna have to step up! That’s all I can say!”
Luckily, step up is exactly...
With the recent news that Jared Sullinger will be out for the rest of the season, joining superstar point guard, Rajon Rondo, all hope of contention is lost. They could make a big trade to acquire talent, but it would cost all of their valuable pieces and long-term cap space, which is why Rudy Gay is not in Boston and why Josh Smith will not be in green either. With a healthy Rajon...
WASHINGTON -- In the midst of their annual Grammy road trip and already playing without maestro Chris Paul, the Clippers learned moments before Monday's tipoff their Lob City band would also be without Blake Griffin. Having played short-handed during most of the season, the Wizards had no sympathy. Martell Webster scored 21 points and sank five 3-pointers as the Washington...
The Boston Celtics finished off their four-game homestand Sunday afternoon with a win over the Los Angeles Clippers. The 106-104 victory was the Celtics' fourth-straight, and they have now won each game following Rajon Rondo's ACL injury. Paul Pierce's 22 points led the way for the Celtics, who withstood a furious fourth-quarter comeback bid by the Clippers. Let's...
What would a Comments post be without a wheelchair mention and some officiating complaints. Seems like they are in every thread. Love that our bench is producing so well these past few games. I was stuck with the Magic feed last night. I missed Mike and Tommy but even worse, they kept getting the names of the Celtics wrong. I've highlighted my favorites. What...
I am on record saying that the Celtics window has closed and it is time to blow up the team. KG and Paul Pierce would be considered valuable assets to teams who are in a position to make a NBA Finals run. Every trade should be explored by Danny Ainge at this point.
KG has a no trade clause, but from these quotes it appears if the right trade came around he would be interested....
