It's been well documented how much Lakers forward Pau Gasol loves Los Angeles. He's been to Dodgers games and done various philanthropic efforts at local hospitals, but Wednesday night he enjoyed a first.
Gasol visited the new Pauley Pavilion and took in what he says was his first college basketball game, a 79-74 overtime win for UCLA over Arizona State.
Gasol attended the game with his Spanish National Team teammate and Minnesota Timberwolves point guard, Ricky Rubio, who is in town for Minnesota's game against the Lakers on Thursday night.
Rubio, who recently came to Gasol's defense, saying "it seems like the Lakers don't want him," and adding that Gasol was "more than welcome" on the Timberwolves, watched alongside Gasol as his younger brother's team battled for a Pac-12 championship.
The youngest of the Gasol's, Adria, is a walk-on freshman at UCLA. He's yet to make an appearance for the Bruins this season, who improved to 21-7 and 11-4 in Pac-12 play - now tied for first in the conference - on Wednesday night.
The elder Gasol was without crutches on Wednesday. He was just one day removed from announcing on Twitter that he no longer needed the aid of crutches as he continues to rehab a torn plantar fascia in his right foot.
On Tuesday, Gasol was cleared to work out on the elliptical machine. He's still believed to be at least three weeks away from a return to action but says "everyday is feeling better."
The Lakers are still on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs but received some help in the form of losses to Houston and Utah on Wednesday night and are now 2.5 games out of the eighth spot. The upward climb will have to continue without Gasol, who's averaging 13.4 points and eight rebounds per game. The Lakers are 5-4 in his most recent absence.

Pau Gasol has been cleared to increase his rehabilitation from a torn plantar fascia in his right foot.
During last night's game against the Lakers, Timberwolves passing maestro Ricky Rubio threw some absolutely ridiculous passes. Most notable among these was Rubio's wonderful wraparound assist to Dante Cunningham in the first quarter, which is shown below. As a bonus, check out another one of Rubio's epic assists from last night. This time, Rubio connects on his patented...

Given that it is a Friday, this video seems to capture the essence of the weekend (and life) just perfectly. During the Timberwolves loss to the Lakers on Thursday night Ricky Rubio unleashed some wonderful life advice to teammate Alexey Shved.
It is fairly impossible not to like Ricky, huh?
“Alexi, change this face. Be Happy. Enjoy.”

'CHANGE YOUR FACE'
The Los Angeles Lakers gave the Minnesota Timbwerwolves a molly-whooping Thursday night as they creep closer to obtaining the eighth seed; so undoubtedly the Timberwolves had something to feel somber about. However, Ricky Rubio had some encouraging words for Alexey Schved which included his facial expressions. H/T @CJZero The post Ricky Rubio’s Words of Wisdom to Alexey Shved...
This really doesn’t have nor does it need much context, but Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio has word to live by. Can’t really argue with him. Could have thrown a “don’t worry” in there.
SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE
While the season has not gone as planned, both Steve Nash and Dwight Howard -- and even Kobe, in a way -- said that the run for a postseason berth could be fun.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost four games in a row and appear destined to miss the playoffs for a ninth straight season, but Ricky Rubio is trying to maintain a positive attitude. Not only that, but he’s trying to influence his teammates to do the same.
During Thursday night’s blowout loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, TNT captured Rubio telling teammate Alexey Shved to cheer...
I have no idea what this means and it is only six seconds long, but it is pure gold. Rubio was trying to encourage his teammate Alexey Shved when this happened courtesy of CJ Zero.
He might have said “Change his Face”, but either way it didn’t work because the T-Wolves were blown out by the Lakers, so no faces were changed enough to pull out the victory, but even with a loss...
This is just beautiful. Especially the ENJOY! right at the end.
There had to be a reason that the Minnesota Timberwolves were willing to wait so long for this young man to be done playing ball overseas (pesky contracts).
Rubio made getting past the Black Mamba look like child's play, and as for Dwight Howard--the words 'too' and 'easy' come to mind.
Of course in the broad scheme of things it was only one basket;...
Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard won a gold with Team USA in the 2008 Beijing Games but missed last summer's London Games due to back surgery, he plans to play in 2016. Asked if he will play for Team USA in Brazil, Howard said: "No doubt."
Rookie guard, Alexey Shved, was looking a little down coming out of a timeout during Thursday night’s matchup against the Lakers, and Ricky Rubio did not approve. He immediately gave his teammate some great advice, “Change this face. Be Happy. Enjoy it.”
