Kobe Bryant and Gerald Wallace took trash talk to another level on Tuesday night.credit: blogs.ocweekly.com The Los Angeles Lakers opened the Mike D’Antoni era with a 5 point win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night. It’s a solid win for a team who started the year out sluggishly, considering the Nets are thought to be one of the better teams in the league this year. Of course, Nets/Knicks means a battle between Gerald Wallace and Kobe Bryant. Wallace tends to be the primary defender against Kobe whenever the two play against each other, and it’s always a great show. Kobe is obviously a great offensive player, but “Crash” always gives him a run for his money defensively. His athleticism and length make him one of the better options in the league to try to slow down the Black Mamba. Last night, things apparently got taken to another level. Gerald Wallace tried to play the mental game with Bryant to get him off his game. Via the New York Daily News: With the game on the line Tuesday night and Kobe Bryant at the charity stripe, Wallace began jawing with the Laker great. What was Wallace talking about? “I was trying to get him to close his eyes to shoot.” Now remember, Michael Jordan is famous for hitting a free throw with his eyes closed, and we all know how much Bryant wants to be like Mike. So maybe there was a chance Bryant would play along. Turns out he would’ve – for a steep price. “I had to make a big bet,” Wallace said. “So I told him just shoot the free throws.” This is pretty ridiculous to think about, but does anything involving Kobe Bryant really surprise us anymore? I wouldn’t have been shocked to see Kobe go to the line for two free throws and knock them down with his eyes closed. You know, just because he’s Kobe Bryant. -Mark Evans, Assistant Manager/Editor of Content Follow us on Twitter The post Gerald Wallace Tried To Get Kobe To Close His Eyes While Shooting Free Throws appeared first on Pass The Pill.

Kobe And Gerald Wallace Place Their Bets

Last night’s game between the Nets and Lakers was an entertaining nail biter. It went down to the wire and came down to some freethrows that needed to be made by Kobe. So Gerald Wallace decided to use some tricks on Kobe and challenge him to shoot them shots with his eyes close. Kobe didn’t bite, or at least without challenging Wallace back with a bet. Wallace later explained...

Kobe Bryant Had Some Things To Say About Jack Taylor’s 138-Point Performance Last Night

In just 35 minutes of play, he made 52 of 108 shots from the field, 27 of 71 shots from three-point land, 7 of 10 free throws, oh, and zero assists. Kobe Bryant Gives Steve Nash Nickname Gatsby

Call me the Great Gatsby T…. Kobe Bryant continues to distribute the ball, but according to him, his stats should slow down when Nash returns…or as he calls him, Gatsby. ‘I’m not working too hard, to be honest with you. The shots that I made were all jumpers. It doesn’t take much energy to knock those jumpers down,’ he said. ‘Bringing the ball up and having me kind...

Column: New coach, but Lakers still Kobe's team

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By JIM LITKE AP Sports Columnist Right after Kobe Bryant made every one of his first five shots, you knew the Lakers weren't going to let new coach Mike D'Antoni lose his debut. As it turned out, just enough good things happened after that to produce Tuesday night's 95-90 win over the visiting Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers shot the ball well enough...

LeBron James, Kevin Durant Moving In on Kobe Bryant on Top 10 NBA Closers List (Photos)

Down by a basket, clock ticking down, emotions running high. Who do you want with the ball in his hands? For more than a decade, the correct answer to that question was Kobe Bryant. Like Derek Jeter in baseball, Bryant had simply come through too often in the clutch to deny that he had a knack for that sort of thing. As Bryant closes in on his 35th birthday, though, does he still...

Times, Kobe talked about how he has basically been running the point for...

WATCH: Dwight Howard airballs free throw, laughs about it

Jason WhitneyI’d pay a lot of money to see what Kobe Bryant was thinking while Dwight Howard was having a few laughs at his own expense during a tightly contested game against the Brooklyn Nets. Howard, will never be confused for Mark Price at the free throw line, failed to even hit net on a free throw attempt. I suppose the only thing you could do is laugh, but the Lakers’ crowd...
