The Atlanta Hawks and 14 year veteran Joe Smith finally signed yesterday, August the 25th, a one year deal. Smith had committed with the Hawks for about a week now but couldn't sign until just yesterday for some kind of NBA rule.
Smith is another one of those players who become a fashion in the NBA. Veteran that can rebound, shoot and be a good influence inside the locker room. Ever since the PJ Brown effect, every single team looks for a guy like that and Atlanta got one which put them a step ahead of other teams in the fight for the Eastern Conference playoffs. Smith will come off the bench to form with Zaza Pachulia the second unit frontcourt. Smith, a very skillful Power Forward, proved last year with the Cavaliers that he still can contribute.
The Hawks understand that they already have a foundation, which allowed them a high seed into the playoffs, however if they wanted to go deeper than that they should add pieces, small and big ones. They took care of the role players, Joe Smith and Jamal Crawford helps them exactly where they needed. Now they should look for an ace.
