Found October 14, 2013 on The Cardinal Connect: Former Louisville big man Gorgui Dieng is fitting in nicely with his new team in the NBA. Not only if Gorgui proving his worth as a first round pick on the basketball court, he is also becoming  popular with his teammates and coaches. According to Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribine, during rookie karaoke night at training camp in Mankato last week, Dieng stood on a chair and sang Happy Birthday to head athletic trainer Gregg Farnam in English, French and his native Wolof. Lorenzo Brown, a fellow rookie and teammate of Dieng’s in Minnesota is already comparing him at Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon. He’s a beast,” Brown tells the Star Tribune. “A lot of people don’t know what kind of moves he has. He’s kind of like Olajuwon down there because he can move either way. Everybody knows he can block shots. I haven’t been down there yet so he hasn’t caught me yet, and he can definitely do that. That’s what he does.” Dieng hasn’t seen a whole lot of action during the preseason, due to the

Kevin Martin eager to get back up to speed despite Achilles

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota's recent rash of injuries aren't the only impetus to exercise extreme caution with Kevin Martin. A sore left Achilles tendon is certainly no torn ACL, but Martin's personal history and 10-year veteran status would seem to dictate taking great care with the Timberwolves' newly acquired, No. 1 outside scoring threat. With season approaching, questions remain for Wolves

MINNEAPOLIS -- Thanks to an interesting scheduling quirk, the Timberwolves embark Monday on leg No. 3 of their segmented preseason escapade. After opening training camp in Mankato, four games in six days marked the second stage of preparation for 2013-14. Minnesota has an entire week before its next outing and, according to coach Rick Adelman, there's plenty to improve upon...

Rick Adelman is not impressed with the Minnesota Timberwolves' 2-2 start to the preseason and criticized their sense of urgency -- or lack thereof -- and sloppiness in a loss to the Toronto Raptors on Saturday. “I don’t understand,” Adelman said. “Like I told them afterward, we’ve played two games here at home and we’re acting like we’re just going through the...

Wolves acting like they have 'plenty of time'

Just four games into a preseason that so far is even Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman delivered a scolding after Saturday’s 104-97 loss to a Raptors team they had beaten in Toronto three days earlier. And he presented his players with some soul-searching concepts after Saturday’s loss. “They’ve got to figure out what they want to do as a team” Adelman said. “I just told...

Adelman reminds the Wolves they aren't the Spurs

Minnesota is a young, up-and-coming team in the Western Conference. With players such as Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, Nikola Pekovic, and Derek Williams, the Wolves could be challenging the best in the West (and in the NBA) with a talented roster. Except they aren't impressing head coach Rick Adelman this preseason. Minnesota is 2-2 in preseason play and recently lost to Toronto...
