Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger isn’t ready to answer questions about whether he or Lance Stephenson will be in the starting lineup when the season opens. “I’ve got to play first” he said. “That’s the question I’ve got to answer first.” Granger who spoke to the media at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Wednesday about his role in the NBA’s Dribble to Stop Diabetes campaign appeared in just five games last season due to a knee injury. He had surgery in late March to remove a piece of scar tissue in his patella tendon after rehabilitation did not work. When asked if playing again was a concern Granger said: “It’s not. It’s a four- to six-month rehab and I’m on the fifth month. I’ll be ready to get on the court; it’s just a matter of when I’m fully ready to play.” Granger said he would not discuss his rehabilitation in depth until the team’s media day Sept. 27. After the Pacers were eliminated by the Miami Heat in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals Granger said pain in his knee was not an issue but he “couldn’t do what I wanted to do.” He also said he expects to be back in the starting lineup. Granger said he enjoyed watching the team come together in his absence last season and is looking forward to playing with the team’s offseason additions especially Luis Scola a 6-9 245-pound post player acquired from Phoenix in a trade. “It was a very exciting time to see the success we had; the fire we re-ignited in Indianapolis for Pacers basketball” Granger said. “It was a lot of fun to watch. Yeah I was upset I wasn’t playing but I wasn’t sad. I was hurt. It happens. “(And) I see us at a better place than last year. Luis Scola should help us a lot. We’ve added more depth.”
