The Clippers know they need Blake Griffin to play the style Blake Griffin likes to play. But that bruising style can take a toll, and with teams more willing to put him on the court, Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro wants Griffin to keep a cool head. "It's a physical game out there," Del Negro said. "Blake's a physical player. I think he's done a very good job -- especially lately -- keeping his composure and staying in the moment, keeping his poise." After being on the receiving end of flagrant fouls in his last two games, Griffin dished out a hard foul on Trevor Ariza to keep him from scoring on the break. "It was a hard foul," New Orleans head coach Monty Williams said. "You're not supposed to give up easy baskets or lay-ups, and that's what he was doing." While Griffin has made strides when it comes to not reacting emotionally, he still has a ways to go. Monday, Griffin was hit with a technical foul for arguing a call. It was his ninth this season. NOTES, QUOTES Foye handles ever-changing role --Clippers guard Randy Foye knows better than to look for a consistent definition of his role. He's not going to find it. Foye's gone from being a "DNP-Coach's Decision" to a starter in a span of less than a week, and he knows that role can change again. "As a man, I never try to look at it like I was dealt a hand that was unfair," Foye said. "I try and look at it as something I can make the best out of it." Foye's play has been almost as up and down as his minutes, as his scoring seems to come on an every-other-game basis. After scoring 18 points against Memphis, Foye had only five in the Clippers' win over New Orleans. Still, he's set a positive example for the rest of the team when it comes to handling adversity. "Randy's a pro. He works hard and is a great teammate. He's handled everything all year and we need him," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. "He has a tremendous amount of respect from his teammates and that goes a long way." --New Orleans forward Al-Farouq Aminu was the only player the Clippers traded for Chris Paul in uniform for New Orleans Monday night. Guard Eric Gordon's missed most of the year with a knee injury, and center Chris Kaman didn't play Monday because of an illness. ROSTER REPORT PLAYER NOTES: --G Chris Paul led the Clippers with 25 points Monday. Paul also added a game-high 10 assists and four steals. --F Caron Butler missed all three of his three-point tries. Butler finished with six points and three rebounds in the Clippers' 12-point win over the Hornets. --F Blake Griffin has 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Griffin also seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in under 33 minutes. --G Nick Young followed up a 16-point performance against Memphis with 17 off the bench Monday against New Orleans. Young was 4-of-8 from behind the three-point line in the win. MEDICAL WATCH: --G Chauncey Billups (left Achilles' tendon) underwent surgery to repair his Achilles tendon. Billups is out for the remainder of the season, but he rejoined the team Saturday in the locker room and on the bench. --G Mo Williams (left big toe) was helped to the locker room in the second half Thursday at New Orleans. While X-rays were negative, Williams will be out for at least two weeks.
