So after Mike Miller’s five years away from the Grizzlies what exactly brought him back to Memphis for a second tour of duty? Was it the fact the 6-8 forward from the University of Florida never sold his Collierville home when he was traded to Minnesota on draft night in June 2008? Was it with the prospect of moving his wife and three kids that he wanted a familiar place rather than another new city to learn? Was it the fact Griz point guard Mike Conley promised to pay for a year’s worth of free golf for Miller? “The biggest thing for me was a commitment to winning” said Miller who made his signing official late Tuesday morning at a public news conference in the FedExForum’s grand lobby. He agreed to sign with the Griz last Saturday choosing Memphis over Oklahoma City. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. “It’s exciting to be back here.” Miller 33 played the last three seasons with Miami where he was a key contributor off the bench in the Heat’s back-to-back championships the last two seasons. He was waived by Miami on July 16 via the league’s amnesty clause. Grizzlies CEO Jason Levien was happy he could sway Miller who will start his 14th NBA season this year to return to Memphis. “This is just a fantastic day to welcome Mike Miller back to Memphis” Levien said. “Our plan (to get Miller) was the kitchen sink. What he did here in Memphis before still resonates in the community. And with his skill set he’ll have a real impact on our team." New Griz coach Dave Joerger did his part in recruiting Miller. “We’ve got a winner a champion and a high high character person” Joerger said. “I’m ecstatic to have him with us. He’ll bring us the ability to stretch out the floor. To most teams he’s a hired gun. For us he’s a part of the fabric of this organization.”
