Fox Sports Southwest:
Fact: A group of Israeli men has made a rap video about an NBA coach.
Question: Quickly, which coach do you think it is?
If you said "Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs," congratulations on your understanding of Popovich's global popularity andor your understanding of popular Israeli culture.
The video does seem to have an air of irony about it, although irony can be tricky enough to communicate from within the same culture, much less from one side of the world to the other.
If any coach was going to be popular in the world at large, however, Popovich would be it. The Spurs have done as well as any other team with international players over the past 10-15 years. Or maybe these Israeli guys just appreciate Pop's career record (865-405) and grouchy demeanor.

AROUND THE WEB
San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has always joked around saying Tim Duncan accuses him of holding his game back for his entire career. In other words, TD can do more than simply play the post but Pop won't unleash him.
We have seen Duncan show off some three-point range (ask the Suns) and in last night's game versus Portland, he showed he can handle the ball...
The Spurs lost Manu Ginobili for the remainder of their game against the Celtics on Saturday, though it looks like the San Antonio shooting guard could have prevented the injury.
Ginobili suffered the left quad injury while flopping. The Spurs’ guard leaned into a Chris Wilcox screen, and vaulted off the Celtics’ center, careening to the ground. Ginobili stayed on the ground...
The San Antonio Spurs are limping along early in the regular season with Kawhi Leonard, Stephen Jackson and Manu Ginobili suffering various injuries. Ginobili suffered a left thigh contusion in last night's win over Boston and is questionable for the upcoming game versus the Thunder. But the team might be seeing Jackson back on the court.
According to Jackson, he is targeting...
San Antonio Spurs fans weren't happy with how the game ended against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night and neither was the coach apparently.
Gregg Popovich is usually a guy who'll give props to the opposing player for making a game winning shot or buzzer beater, but this time it was different. Pop was disappointed in his shooting guard Danny Green for not sticking to the...
OFF THE GLASS
Arguably one of the best NBA points guards in the 2000's, Spurs guard Tony Parker showed off his usual flair for the dramatic in the fourth quarter of San Antonio's game against the Boston Celtics last night. Watch as Tony P gets to the rack and somehow uses the top of the backboard to get his circus shot to fall:
SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Tony Parker had 22 points and eight assists to help the San Antonio Spurs beat the Boston Celtics 103-88 on Saturday night.
Gary Neal added 20 points, Danny Green scored 12 and Tiago Splitter finished with 16 points and eight rebounds for San Antonio (19-6), which overcame the loss of Manu Ginobili to improve to 8-2 at home.
Ginobili departed with a bruised...
SAN ANTONIO -- With Manu Ginobili out hurt and Tim Duncan struggling, the San Antonio Spurs turned to Tony Parker and a tested bench to get them a win. They produced in convincing style. Parker had 22 points and eight assists to lead the Spurs to a 103-88 win over the Boston Celtics Saturday night at the AT&T Center. The 12th-year guard was 8-of-14 from the field and 5...
OLD MAN HOPS
To be honest, it's been awhile since we've posted a Tim Duncan dunk on this fair website but you need to check out this dunk he had during Thursday night's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Watch as the big fundamental throws it down on Trail Blazer forward Nicolas Batum:
The Spurs are beginning to give Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter extended minutes together.
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Rookie point guard Damian Lillard outdueled All-Star Tony Parker, and the Portland Trail Blazers held off a late San Antonio Spurs surge to win 98-90 Thursday night at the Rose Garden. Lillard collected season highs in points (29) and rebounds (seven), and he had six assists. The 6-foot-3 Weber State product shot 11-for-22 from the field and 5-for-5 from the...
The Celtics dropped their second straight game, falling to the San Antonio Spurs 103-88. It was the second of back to back games and although the Celtics hung with the Spurs in the first half, they played from behind for much of the game and clearly ran out of gas in the second half and that's when the Spurs took advantage and raced out to a double digit lead.
SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio guard Tony Parker had 22 points and eight assists to lead the Spurs to a 103-88 win over the Boston Celtics Saturday night at the AT&T Center. Parker was 8 of 14 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line and scored nine points in the final quarter. Gary Neal added 20 points, Tiago Splitter 16 and Danny Green 12 as the Spurs snapped a two...
Spurs backcourt Tony Parker and Gary Neal combined for 42 points to lead the Spurs over the Celtics 103-88. Paul Pierce and Jason Terry led the Celtics with 19 apiece in the losing effort. Here are some more quick observations:
Jason Terry couldn't miss in the 1st half (17 points).
Jason Terry couldn't make in the 2nd half (1 point).
Manu Ginobili was limited to just over...
The San Antonio Spurs may have lost last night to the Blazers but Tim Duncan sure left an impression on Nicolas Batum.
During the first quarter of last night's game, Tony Parker found Duncan off a pick-and-roll and Batum was just at the wrong place, at the wrong time.
Check out TD putting Batum on a poster. Hopefully Batum learned a valuable lesson... never get in TD...
The Spurs Gary Neal and the Celtics Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry talk after Saturday night's game.
