HOUSTON – NBA Hall of Famer Clyde “The Glide” Drexler has had his share of accomplishments over his career – 10 combined All-Star appearances with the Portland Trailblazers and Houston Rockets, and even an NBA championship in 1995 with the Rockets. Three weeks ago after the Sprite Slam Dunk contest had concluded, I had the chance to speak with Drexler about another NBA player who has double-digit All-Star games under his belt and four NBA championships already, San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan. Drexler had some positive words about Duncan and what he’s done for the game as a whole. “The big fundamental has been tremendous as a statesman,” said Drexler of Duncan, “as a polished professional, and one of the best basketball players to ever play this game.” “I can’t give him enough credit for his demeanor on the court and off the court and the way that he approaches the game,” continued Drexler, “he’s very cerebral in his approach and that’s the reason he’s still playing at a high level.” Duncan, who made the All-Star team for the 14th  time in his career last month, is indeed playing at a high level as he just posted 16 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and five blocks in just 26 minutes on Sunday against the Detroit Pistons without his fellow All-Star teammate Tony Parker. That Saturday evening in Houston, Drexler was one who has a high level of respect for Duncan. “I’ve got nothing but praise for the 'Big Fundamental.'”
