BOSTON - The New Orleans Hornets, a young team starting to find its way, put an end to the Celtics' six-game winning streak with an impressive 90-78 win over Boston Wednesday night. The Hornets, who have suddenly won six of their last seven games, won for the second straight night on the road and also won the battle within the Rivers family, with rookie guard Austin Rivers coming out on top in his first game against his dad, Celtics coach Doc Rivers. The younger Rivers, who shared a hug with his dad before the game, entered with 4:19 left in the first quarter and scored four points in 14:41 of playing time in the first half. He came back in the third quarter and, with mom and family looking on, scored his team's last three points of the quarter. He made a late free throw, finishing with eight points in 22 minutes, his best game in a while. Austin Rivers Follows Father’s Example of Resilience to Get Through Rough Rookie Season Thus Far

BOSTON — Austin Rivers is not having a rough start to his NBA career, in his eyes. It only looks that way. As far as the Hornets’ rookie is concerned, rough times are what his father, Celtics coach Doc Rivers, endured early in his coaching career, before bringing a 17th championship banner to Boston in 2008 and ascending to his current status as one of the best coaches in the...

Your Morning Dump… Where Doc should have seen this coming

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. With his team’s confidence maybe overflowing a bit too much amidst a season-high six-game winning streak, Rivers wrote, ‘Guard down,’ after Tuesday’s practice session. With that in mind, he blamed himself...

Same old story: Celtics blow big lead, still win

BOSTON -- If Doc Rivers had his druthers, his team wouldn't be blowing double-digit leads, which the Boston Celtics have done in each of the past three games, all at home. But coming out on top in all three, which has run the team's winning streak to six games, makes it a little easier for the coach to accept. "You always don't like it," Rivers said after...

Celtics’ Loss to Hornets Does Not Necessarily Undo Encouraging Improvements, But Bad Habits Bear Watching

BOSTON — Doc Rivers saw the danger level rising Monday, when the Celtics escaped an uneven performance with a win over the dreadful Bobcats. His concern grew Tuesday, when he sensed trouble in an uninspired practice stuck directly between two games against opponents who did not exactly stir echoes of legends. Then the Celtics showed up for Wednesday’s game against the Hornets...

Comments from the Other Side - Hornets 1/16

The Celtics really lost focus last night and just played terribly.  I mean there's now excuse for a pro team to shoot 37% from the line.  That's lack of focus.  Maybe they all subconsciously were trying to make Austin look better because he's struggling so much and that was their gift to their coach.  Hopefully they get it together for Friday's game.   37% from...

According to coach Doc Rivers, the 6-foot-2 defensive star, has a rib injury that will keep him from practicing today. “He’s OK; not great,” said Rivers in describing Bradley’s current state physically...

Underrated Stat of the Night - Bobcats 1/14

The Celtics, behind another triple-double from Rondo, defeated the Bobcats 100-89 at the TD Garden Monday night. Yes, it was just 11 points. And I know that all non-Celtic fans will send me e-mails later calling me an idiot for praising them. But they had this game in control pretty well from the very beginning. Charlotte made a slight dent in the third, but I would still be proud...
