CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Hornets have selected power forward Noah Vonleh with the ninth overall pick in the NBA draft.
It marks the second straight year Charlotte has taken a player from Indiana with its lottery pick. Last year the team selected Cody Zeller with the fourth overall pick.
The 6-foot-10 Vonleh gives the team some added height and a potential replacement at power forward in case the team is unable to re-sign Josh McRoberts, who opted out of his contract earlier this month.
Vonleh averaged 11 points and nine rebounds and was the Big Ten freshman of the year last season.
Since 2006, Charlotte has had eight lottery picks but none of them have turned into All-Stars.
The Hornets entered this draft with three picks, including two in the first round.
