Houston Rockets Reportedly Sign Recent Trail Blazers Player
USA TODAY Sports

Jeenathan Williams is coming off his rookie year, where he averaged 10.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest in five regular season games for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Last week, the Trail Blazers waived Williams, so he became a free agent.

On August 1, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (h/t HoopsRumors) reported that the 24-year-old will sign with the Houston Rockets

Via Scotto: "Sources: The Rockets have agreed to a one-year deal with Jeenathan Williams, @hoopshype has learned. He’ll compete for a roster spot after averaging 10.6 points in 25.3 minutes in five games with the Trail Blazers last season. Williams is represented by Billy Davis of @foasports_"

In addition to his five games in the NBA, Williams also spent time in the G League.

The former Buffalo star averaged 14.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest while shooting 52.3% from the field and 42.0% from the three-point range in 32 regular season games (he also appeared in 18 Showcase Cup games and one G League playoff game).

The Rockets are a young team, so adding him to their training camp roster could end up being a smart move.

This past year, they were the 14th seed in the Western Conference and tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the second-worst record in the NBA (22-60).

They have missed the NBA playoffs for three straight seasons, but this summer, the Rockets were one of the most active teams in free agency and added players such as Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks.
