In a season of ups and downs, injuries and mediocre basketball, the Lakers got more bad news this afternoon. An MRI on Pau Gasols right foot showed he has plantar fasciitis, one of the most painful and longest-healing injuries an athlete can have. The 7-footer is listed as probable for Friday's game against the Blazers at Staples Center. But plantar fasciitis is as unpredictable as it is painful, so by game time Gasol could be in street clothes, leaving Jordan Hill to back up Dwight Howard, who will not be suspended for his flagrant 2 foul in Denver on Wednesday night. The NBA announced late Thursday that they fined Howard 35,000 for pie-facing the Nuggets Kenneth Faried to the ground in the Laker loss. Gasol was just getting his body and game back into shape after sitting out eight straight contests with tendinitis in both knees.
