A league source has confirmed a report that the Nets and Bobcats have had preliminary talks about sending power forward Kris Humphries to Charlotte for guard Ben Gordon. While the deal isn't etched in stone, a change would provide big ups for each team. The Feb. 21 trade deadline is less than two weeks away but Humphries claims he's not distracted by all the talk. "You don't pay attention to it," Humphries said after scoring two points and hauling in three rebounds in the Nets 89-74 loss to the Wizards. "You have to just play and make the most of the situation.  It is what it is." Humphries has already seen his numbers drop on a Nets team that is loaded with big men. Four other players — Andray Blatche, Brook Lopez, Reggie Evans and Mirza Teletovic — are already in the mix with Hump for rotation time on the court. Humphries is averaging 6.0 points and 6.4 rebounds after averaging double-doubles for the past two seasons.  His playing time has been drastically reduced over the past few weeks. "It's not ideal," reasoned Humphries. "But you do the best you can given the situation and work from there." Gordon, meanwhile, is averaging 13.1 points in 22 minutes per game for the Bobcats while coming from the bench. The three-point sniper would allow the Nets to go small in the backcourt and his 41.7 percent three-point shooting would help spread the offense. With Gordon joining Deron Williams in the backcourt, the Nets could move Joe Johnson to small forward and Gerald Wallace to power forward. Humphries is in the first year of a two-year, $24 million contract.
