Allen Iverson officially retired from basketball Wednesday -- yes, a Wednesday in 2013. The news = meant it was time for Iverson to talk legacy -- which really meant it was time, once again, to talk about practice. Iverson, 38, was a four-time NBA scoring champion and the MVP of the league when he carried the over-matched Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals in 2001. But, he is perhaps best remembered for delivering one of the most famous rants in sports history in 2002: Iverson's tirade about the media's focus on practice over performance encapsulated everything that was thrilling, frustrating and complicated about one of the most courageous players of all time. Finally, at his retirement announcement, Iverson told the rest of the story. "The media -- they had no idea that my best friend had just gotten killed," he said. Iverson kept the news to himself, but the emotion spilled out in another direction. He also said Wednesday he felt deceived by the 76ers, who indicated the purpose of the press conference was to discuss why he had not been traded. Obviously, this was no time to be talking about practice.
