Found February 05, 2013 on Orlando Magic Daily:
The Magic have made no secret that they are hoping to develop talent and home-grow a team. That is the process the Spurs and Thunder used. That is why every trade rumor includes a desire for Orlando to acquire draft picks or young players on cheap contracts. This season though is also about the development of Jacque Vaughn as a head coach. Vaughn has been out of the NBA for a scant two seasons, spending those two years as an assistant coach with the Spurs, before getting the head coaching job with the Magic. Undoubtedly there would be some experience gap that Vaughn would have to fill and mistakes would be made. Jacque Vaughn has had his own growing pains just like the young players on his roster. Vaughn runs practice on a strict schedule, a process gleaned from his time with Roy Williams as a player at Kansas and Gregg Popovich with the Spurs. He is extremely even-keeled and positive in his approach to the media. Every loss seems to have a bright side. And that is g...

Magic rumors: Most teams expect J.J. Redick to be traded

Orlando Magic guard and sharpshooter J.J. Redick appears to perennially be on the team’s trade block, but at this point most clubs ESPN’s Marc Steinspeaks with believe he will “definitely be dealt” between now and the deadline. The Orlando sharpshooter is the player, with Gay off the board, most teams cite when asked to name a player who will definitely be dealt between now...

Arron Afflalo: "Black Boy Fly"

Since the Magic acquired Arron Afflalo one word has described him: professional. Afflalo is the kind of player that has had to work for everything he has had. He ducks his head, gets his work done and talks about the team first. That has been the experience with him in a Magic uniform. His soft-spoken nature certainly does not let you into some of the trials from his past. ...

J.J. Redick latest added to Magic injury list

When it rains, it pours. Late in Saturday's game against Milwaukee, J.J. Redick appeared to be favoring his shoulder as he went to the bench late in the game. Redick had to fight off Monta Ellis for most of the night but it appeared that his foray into the paint is what knicked him this time. And it appears it got him a little bit harder than initially believed. John...

Your NBA Pick for 2-6-13

LA Clippers -250 @ Orlando Magic In short: The Magic are reeling, having dropped 10 straight. They will also likely be without Jameer Nelson, JJ Redick, Glen Davis, and Aaron Afflalo. The Clips are on a bit of a slide themselves, having lost three straight. They should be able to shake that tonight, even if Blake sits as a precaution.

J.J. Redick Might Annoy the Heck Out of Many Fans, But Valuable Player Would Be Intriguing Trade Deadline Pickup

BOSTON — Seven years removed from his last 3-pointer with Duke, J.J. Redick does not receive the same relentless treatment from fans as he did early in his career. Back then, the anti-Duke armies at certain arenas would boo loudly whenever the former NCAA Player of the Year touched the ball or kinda, sorta exaggerated contact whenever a defender bumped him. Although he never averaged...

Magic fire blanks in second half slowdown

Jameer Nelson did whatever he wanted in the first half. Split a double team and get into the lane for a layup? Done. Run the pick and roll to get a good look for himself or others? Done. Pull-up 3-pointers? Done. Nelson, playing his first game since last Friday's loss to Boston, scored 18 points in the first half and controlled the tempo of the game. Nobody else on the...

Injury Bug Bites Young

Last night's victory over the Orlando Magic was the least bit impressive. The victory was not the night's biggest story; Thaddeus Young's injury was. Young suffered a left hamstring strain during second quarter of the Sixers 78-62 victory over the Magic. News came back, but Young did not. Today, Young went and got an MRI done on the hamstring and it revealed that he has...

Short-handed, short on points

If there was a sense of urgency in this snoozer of a game, it likely came in the fourth quarter. The Magic were not getting much offensively, were doing enough defensively to keep the scoring margin close but not inspiring much hope that they would come back and win. Not with Jameer Nelson, Arron Afflalo and J.J. Redick out with nagging injuries. Orlando had just nine players available...

Joakim Noah, the Orlando Magic and more players sitting out on Monday

Lots of guys sitting out tonight. Here's who we know for sure won't be suiting up: Joakim Noah J.J. Redick Jameer Nelson Arron Afflalo Jason Richardson Bradley Beal Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Vince Carter

Rockets tie Magic 3-point record

The 2009 Magic now have company at the top of the record books. Last night, the Rockets defeated the Warriors 140-109, tying an NBA record with 23 3-pointers in the game. This ties the mark the Magic set in 2009 in Sacramento when the Magic hit 23 3-pointers in a perfect storm of spacing and shooting. If there was any game that exemplified what the Stan Van Gundy-era teams were...
