Jalen Rose joined Bill Simmons for Grantland’s “BS Podcast” on Sunday night, and the former Fab Fiver issued a plea to his former teammate, Chris Webber, in hopes of getting Webber to attend Monday night’s national title game between Michigan and Louisville. “Hopefully, he’s not the only person that chooses not to participate in celebrating Michigan basketball being back on top, 20 years after we played in the final game,” Rose said. “It would mean so much to the university, so much to the current players …” Rose and Simmons then discussed how Webber, now an analyst on NBATV, actually lives in Atlanta, just minutes from the site of Monday’s game. “There has been a communication separation since we all were teammates,” Rose said. “I think the timeout had a lot to do with it. I think he wants to disassociate himself with that moment and with that school, in theory with us, to kind of rebuild his life mentally to say, ‘My career really started my rookie year in the NBA.’” “But that’s not really how it works. It’s unfortunate. If I saw him tomorrow, we’d hug like brothers.” According to Rose, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson will be in attendance at the game, while Juwan Howard (who has a game with the Miami Heat on Tuesday) will try to make it. That leaves Webber as the outlier. But King echoed Rose’s sentiments that Webber has more or less cut the Fab Five from his life. “We don’t know what’s going on with him [Webber]” says @jimmyking24 – All the other guys contact him, C-Webb doesn’t respond — MVictors (@MVictors) April 8, 2013 re: Webber @jimmyking “Hope and pray [he shows up tonight]“ — MVictors (@MVictors) April 8, 2013 We’ll have to see what Webber decides to do. Hopefully for the Wolverines, this trip to the title game ends in happier fashion than its previous finals appearance, which North Carolina won following that infamous Webber timeout.
