As expected, Jameer Nelson broke the Magic's all-time assist mark last night, recording his second of his 12 assist last night on a bounce pass to Andrew Nicholson which he emphatically finished at the rim. {youtube}CfCNCLEY9Ro{/youtube} Congrats to Jameer Nelson on that fantastic accomplishment! John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com, among others, spoke to Nelson before Monday's game about the prospect of gaining this accomplishment. Nelson was certainly in a reflective mood about it: I’m not a guy for individual accolades, but when you get a little older you reflect on those things, realize what you did and tell those stories to your kids. My son is getting to be 11 years old and sometimes he can’t even believe some of the things that I did in college. But hopefully he’ll watch (ESPN’s) SportsCenter (on Tuesday) morning. Nelson is not the only one thinking about his place. With Nelson now firmly atop one of the Magic's all-time lists (and nearing a few others), fans were wondering aloud whether Nelson's No. 14 should be retired. That might still be a little ways off, but he will join the debate when he retires and fit in with the list of could-be retireds like Nick Anderson and Darrell Armstrong. Nelson was a free agent this summer and wanted to stay in Orlando. He was very happy Orlando wanted him back. As he told Denton, the blue No. 14 is now his identity: My identity is being a Magic player and I have been that the past 8.5 years. That’s my identity. . . . I’m number 14 in that Magic jersey and that’s’ my identity It was an unfortunate day for Scott Skiles. He both lost that record and mutually parted ways with the Bucks amid rumors that he was very unhappy with the team he was given to coach. His coaching style -- hard nosed defense -- certainly did not match up with that roster. Hopefully Skiles gets involved somewhere in the NBA again. For now, Nelson is focused on snapping this nine-game losing skid.
