Jason Kelce Has Truthful Take on LeBron James’ NFL Capability
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Even though he’s not active in the NFL anymore, Jason Kelce still knows what it takes to be a football star. Turns out, he thinks Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has all the right tools to not only be a basketball player, but also become great in football as well.

Just recently, Austin Rivers said that a lot of NBA stars can become great football players if they chose to sign up with the NFL. Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers’ son added that the same can’t be said for NFL stars planning to enter the league.

Rivers’ take stirred up a storm amongst both NFL and NBA stars, with some refuting his claim right away. One such player was former Pittsburgh Steelers Safety Ryan Clark when he said that NBA players aren’t athletic enough to be in the NFL. He added that the physicality of the game is levels above the basketball and those who don’t play the sport won’t be tough enough.

Even with all the reactions coming his way, both positive and negative, Rivers doubled down on his take and stood by it. While he initially reduced his number of NBA players that can play football from 30 to around 10, he reiterated that these guys can make the jump well than the other way around.

Jason Kelce Drops Honest Take on Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James Capability As An NFL Star

Among those who gave their take on the issue is former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce. In a tweet reacting to Clark’s take on X:

As it stands, James has the body, speed, athleticism, and intellect to transition well from being a basketball player to the NFL. Add his commitment to maintaining his body and any football team will be better with the Lakers star around.

In a way, the conversation started by Rivers won’t be proven until a huge number of players from both leagues exchange sports for a given period of time. In any case, James remains one of the chosen few with the right set of skills and physical gifts to make the jump as an NFL star.
