Boston fans will have to wait until January 26th to show their appreciation for both Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Kidd made his final decision to sit the future hall of famers out yesterday. “As of right now, those two won’t play in Boston,” Kidd said. “They’ll play in the final (preseason) game (in Miami on Friday).” Both Pierce and Garnett will most likely get a big ceremony and it makes more sense to have it during the regular season.

Nets retire Jason Kidd's No. 5 jersey

Jason Kidd lifted the Nets to their greatest NBA heights, and on Thursday they lifted his No. 5 to the rafters. The Nets retired Kidd's jersey in a ceremony before their former star coached them against the Miami Heat. Kidd arrived in New Jersey in 2001 and promptly led the Nets, who had been one of the league's sorriest franchises, to consecutive NBA Finals. He played...

Garnett to LeBron: Butt out

LeBron James was sticking up for a teammate. Kevin Garnett said to butt out. Now, isn't this fun? Garnett was responding to James' recent remarks about how much, uh, heat Ray Allen took when he left the Boston Celtics to sign with James' Miami team as a free agent before last season. "The first thing that I thought was like, 'Wow, Ray got killed for leaving...

Pierce: Nets' Identity Will Be Toughness

With words from LeBron James about the exit of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce from the Boston Celtics still ringing in their ears Pierce delivered a shoulder block to James on a breakaway in the first quarter of Thursday's game between the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat. Garnett also landed a soft blow on James' head. "That's going to be our identity" Pierce said...

Players laud Jason Kidd as Nets retire his jersey

Here is some reaction from various players involved in Thursday night’s Nets-Heat preseason game about Jason Kidd’s No. 5 jersey being retired by the Nets: Kevin Garnett: “I thought it was great. I’m glad I was in the building and able to be part of something that was special for everybody who was in the league. He had an unbelievable run when he was here and I just felt...

Kevin Garnett Throws Shots Back at Lebron

Everybody loves a good sports rivalry, like the one that is brewing between the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets. Soon after telling reporters that there were “no rivalries” between the Miami Heat and anybody in the eastern conference, he certainly threw some shade towards the Brooklyn Nets. “I think the first thing I thought […]

Paul Pierce Delivers Hard Shoulder to LeBron James During Preseason Game (Video)

Much harder blows have been delivered on a basketball court than the one Paul Pierce gave LeBron James on Thursday. Usually not in a preseason game, though. Pierce and James do not see eye to eye on lots of things. Mostly recently, James called out Pierce and Kevin Garnett for holding a grudge against Ray Allen for leaving the Celtics in 2012, equating Allen’s departure via free...

Kevin Garnett fires back at LeBron James

We all know how intense Kevin Garnett can be. LeBron James went on record to essentially call Garnett and teammate Paul Pierce hypocrites for the way they treated Ray Allen after leaving the Boston Celtics to join the Miami Heat last season last season. Garnett and Pierce, along with Doc Rivers and other Celtics’ players were quick to pass judgement on their former teammate (Allen...

Kevin Garnett Fires Back At LeBron James

After defeating Miami 86-62 in a preseason matchup on Thursday night, Kevin Garnett fired back at LeBron James for the comments he made about KG and Paul Pierce leaving the Celtics. According to the NY Times: James stirred things a bit Wednesday, saying he found it interesting that Garnett and Pierce, who were critical of Allen’s decision to leave Boston, had now moved on from...

Thorn: Kidd-Marbury Trade Tougher To Make Than Remembered

Rod Thorn traded Stephon Marbury for Jason Kidd in 2001, which was a riskier move at the time for the Brooklyn Nets than it is now remembered. Marbury was one of the NBA's best young point point guards, while Kidd was already midway through his career. “Marbury at the time, was a tremendous talent,” Thorn said earlier this week. “The jury was out on who got the better of...

Toughness...

Toughness is an underrated quality in the NBA these days. To be contenders, teams need a good offense along with a strong defense, but they also need that one quality that eludes a lot of teams, and that is toughness. I've always felt that one of the reasons that the 2011 team faltered after Danny traded Perk was because, even though they still had KG, they lost much of their...

Your Celtics Life week in review... 10/20/13

This week was probably a bit emotional for many Celtics fans, as our current Celtics roster traveled to Brooklyn, where former captain Paul Pierce had to play against his old team for the first time. As bizarre a sight it was for Celtics fans to see The Truth in anything but green and white, it was probably much weirder for Pierce himself as he lined up against his old team. Pierce...
