Utah Jazz forward Jeremy Evans was not even on the original invitation list to take part in the 2012 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, however his showmanship on Saturday night at Orlando’s Amway Center, wowed the crowd in the stadium and at home as the second year bench player went on to win the competition. The second round draft pick in the 2010 NBA Draft dunked with a camera on his head, jumped over teammate Gordon Hayward who was sitting in a chair while holding two balls and then pulled on a Karl Malone Jazz jersey and proceeded to jump over comedian Kevin Hart masquerading as a mailman.
Evans would not have been in the contest, however he got into the lineup after New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert backed out due to injury. He defeated Houston’s Chase Budinger, Indiana’s Paul George and Minnesota rookie Derrick Williams to grab the title. This was the first year that the Association left the decision entirely up to the fans who voted via text message.
