There was a time where Joe Dumars was revered for this shrewd trades and his thrifty, yet intelligent free agent pickups. Of course, it helps when those moves land you a championship. But those days are well gone. Forget the trades that landed them Ben Wallace, Rip Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace. Forget the cheap deal which netted the team Chauncey Billups. Those were deals that marked an entire different Dumars era of general managing. But go ahead and remember the deals for Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon. Or the Allen Iverson trade. Those are more defining of who Dumars is, now. Don’t believe me, just look at who he met with at 12:01AM this morning. Look, Atlanta Hawks free agent Josh Smith is a solid NBA basketball player, but not worth a large deal. That’s what he is seeking, and from all reports, that’s what the Pistons are willing to give him with their nearly $20 million in salary cap space. He’s been an obsession of Dumars’ for the past few years, as he has attempted to trade for him. It made sense before the Pistons. frontline was anchored by Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond, as Smith plays above the [...]

Peyton Siva Is In A Good Situation With The Detroit Pistons

Last Thursday night during the NBA Draft, with just seven or eight picks remaining, I was starting to think Peyton Siva may be on the outside looking in. Fortunately for Siva, the Detroit Pistons decided to use the 56th pick on him. As the draft was finishing up and Siva still hadn’t heard his name called, there were a lot of fans who had said that PS3 would be better to go undrafted...

Detroit Pistons Exploring Jeremy Lin Sign-and-Trade Deal?

Jose Calderon provided the Detroit Pistons a nice option at point guard following a mid-season trade, but with Calderon hitting unrestricted free agency, it might be time to turn to Plan B. And that backup plan, according to CBSSports’ Ken Berg: Another possible landing spot for Jeremy Lin is Detroit, source says. Rockets would acquire Jose Calderon in sign-and-trade in such a...

And so it begins. Y! Sources: Detroit meeting with free agent Josh Smith at 12:01 EST, planning to make substantial offer. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 1, 2013

Source: Calderon drawing significant interest

One point guard that is not garnering nearly as much attention as someone like Chris Paul or Brandon Jennings is Jose Calderon. But just because Calderon’s name has not been spreading through media reports like wildfire does not mean teams are not paying attention to the 31-year-old Spaniard. Per a league source, Calderon is visiting with multiple teams and is looking to latch...

By MICHAEL SCOTT Special to For the Pistons, the time is now. We know that it's been five years (and four coaches) since they last won a playoff game. But that was then, this is now.
