Greg Stiemsma a 6’11 undrafted free agent had his first career start for the Boston Celtics tonight. I’d have to say thanks to John Wall of the Washington Wizards it was a memorable one but for the wrong reason. Wall had a highlight reel dunk on/over him. Now in all honesty, Stiemsma did have a good first start. He scored 13 points with seven rebounds and two blocks over 21 minutes of play. Most importantly the Celtics pulled out the win 100-92 addthis_url = 'http%3A%2F%2Fmysportsrumors.com%2Fblog%2F2012%2F01%2F02%2Fjohn-wall-dunks-on-611-center%2F'; addthis_title = 'John+Wall+Dunks+On+6%26%238217%3B11+Center'; addthis_pub = '';

Which Current Cat Would Help John Wall the Most?

When John Wall was drafted #1 overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2010 NBA Draft, many NBA scouts said the former UK All-American point guard was the greatest point guard prospect since Magic Johnson. After a rocky rookie year, it was thought Wall would make significant improvements coming into this year. While he has improved his defensive game, averaging 1.6 blocks per game...

Wilcox In, Jermaine Out, Stiemsma Starts Tonight Against Washington

Rookie Center Greg Stiemsma will get his first career start at Center for the Boston Celtics tonight after it was announced that Jermaine O’Neal will NOT play in tonight’s game due to a sore hamstring, suffered yesterday against the Wizards in Washington. Stiemsma has played well off the bench for the Celtics appearing in two [...]

John Wall dunks, gets technical foul

The Wizards still haven’t won a game, but they keep adding to the highlight reel. This one is notable for two reasons: it’s a pretty swell dunk by John Wall, and he was given a technical foul for preening and/or continuing to exist after the dunk. I do love to criticize players for celebrating individual plays during losses, but I’m not sure how the world was made a better...

Boston Celtics Greg Stiemsma Shows Off Offense In First Start

The Boston Celtics knew that they were getting a center that had an idea of how to play defense in Greg Stiemsma. Stiemsma won a defensive player of the year award in the D-League. I do not care what professional league that you play in because if you win a defensive player of the year award, you have an idea of how to play defense. However, in his first start the Celtics rookie...

John Wall shines, but Rajon Rondo is better as Celtics top Wizards

Before the start of Sunday’s game against Boston, Wizards Coach Flip Saunders told John Wall to have fun again. The point guard did just that, and as a result, Wall turned in his best game statistically. The No. 1 overall pick in 2010 had a team-high 19 points and eight assists, and he added seven rebounds, a steal and a block in nearly 39 1 / 2 minutes. That production, however...

Wall Gets a Technical for Looking

The Wizards racked up technical fouls Monday night, including a pair that had coach Flip Saunders tossed from the game in the first quarter. But it was a technical called on John Wall that had us shaking our heads. Wall drove hard, dunked on Celtics center Greg Stiemsma and gave him a “who’s your daddy” stare down. The ref, apparently offended by the glare, whistled...

Celtics 100, Wizards 92: Stiemsma, Allen lead third straight Celtics win against another miserable team

The Boston Celtics have returned to .500. Greg Stiemsma looks like a legitimate backup center (although he started this affair). The Washington Wizards are not good. Boston spent three quarters treading water but applied a finishing kick that left the Wizards in their wake, giving way to a 100-92 victory.Including work, I’ve been writing more or less consecutively since 9 a...

‘He’s the Steamroller. You bring it into the lane, and he’s going to steamroll you.’

As legend has it, there once lived a man whose shot Greg Stiemsma could not block. Stiemsma spent years plotting his revenge (or something like that), and the two finally met in a professional game in the country Georgia. Mike Wilkinson, a former teammate of Stiemsma’s at Wisconsin who Stiemsma calls an “undersized post but crafty,” rose for a shot and Stiemsmaâ€...

Tony Kornheiser and David Aldridge on John Wall

Just before the NBA season began, Jason Reid wrote a column speculating about the challenges the Wizards would face keeping John Wall in D.C. for the long-term. Here’s the one paragraph summary: The Wizards are in no danger of losing Wall soon. They control his rights for at least another three seasons beyond this one, which they begin Monday night against the New Jersey Nets at...

Celtics win 100-92 over the Washington Wizards & Improve to 3-3

Tonight the Boston Celtics faced off against the athletic, John Wall powered, Washington Wizards. The Celtics were looking to get back to a .500 record, after the convincing 94-86 win last night with Rajon Rondo leading the way. The Wizards were grasping for their first win of the season (and the new year) after racking up their 4th loss (0-4). With Jermaine O'Neal out for the...

Pressure Mounts on Celtics Rookie to Enter Hall of Fame

DATELINE: HUMOR!Greg Stiemsma was relatively unknown, the token blond guy at the end of the bench. Then, something funny happened on the way to the playoffs. The tall guy who seemed to be a joke wasn’t laughing. He was ready to be shipped out of town as soon as GM Danny Ainge gathered a few dollars together to pay for a broken down journeyman to play on the Celtics. Greg has...
