It might seem like a post-practice shootout between James Jones and Mario Chalmers. The only difference is the two Miami Heat guards will be doing it in front of a packed house. Jones and Chalmers were named two of the six contestants for the 3-point shooting contest Feb. 25 during All-Star Weekend in Orlando. Also competing will be Ryan Anderson of the Magic, All-Stars Joe Johnson of Atlanta and Kevin Love of Minnesota, and New Jerseys Anthony Morrow. Jones claimed the event last year in Los Angeles, marking the third time in five years a Heat player had won. Jason Kapono did so in 2007 and Daequan Cook won in 2009. Miami also had Glen Rice win in 1995. Having a third of the field certainly helps the chances of another Heat player hoisting a trophy. Chalmers is shooting 46.3 percent on 3-pointers for the season and Jones is at 40.4 percent. Jones has attempted only 47 this season and likely is in the contest only because he is defending champion. Heat guard Mike Miller leads the team at a staggering 52.1 percent, but hes taken only 48 on the season after missing 12 games due to injury. Anderson is shooting 42.1 percent from behind the arc. Hell try to become Orlandos first winner in the event that began in 1986, three years before the Magic and two years before the Heat entered the NBA. Among the other three, Morrow is shooting 42.3 percent, Love 36.1, and Johnson 35.6. Chris Tomasson can be reached at christomasson@hotmail.com or on Twitter@christomasson

Was Ryan Anderson snubbed?

Ryan Anderson has long been a statistical dream for many many analysts. A high-efficiency scorer who can step out and hit a 3-pointer to spread the floor but can also get down low and work the offensive glass and in the post. There were somewhat scary statistical comparisons to a young Dirk Nowitzki during the lockout. Everyone was excited for Anderson to get his opportunity at...

Judging this year's 3-point shootout

It’s almost time for All-Star weekend. My favorite part of the festivities before the game is usually the dunk contest, but after looking at the contestants this year, I might have to pick something else. Perhaps the 3-point shootout… Looking at the competitors this year, we should be in for an interesting competition. You’ve got defending champion James Jones of the Miami...

Magic hit 15 3-pointers, roll by 76ers (AP)

Ryan Anderson had seven 3-pointers and scored 27 points, Dwight Howard added 17 points and 14 rebounds and the Orlando Magic shot their way past the Philadelphia 76ers, 103-87 on Wednesday night. Orlando made 15 of 25 attempts from 3-point range, and had all five starters reach double figures for the second consecutive game.

3-Point contest comes early

In the end, only one player from the Magic can be in the 3-point contest this All-Star Weekend. Ryan Anderson is a pretty good pick. He is the NBA leader in 3-pointers made and 3-pointers attempted. An obvious pick. But so would have J.J. Redick, Jason Richardson and Jameer Nelson. They can hit 3-pointers too. And when the Magic start hitting 3-pointers, the avalanche is tough to...
