You know you’re in trouble when Kendrick Perkins starts to give you the stink eye. Perk boasts what has to be the most frightening mean-mug in all of sports and right now he’s aiming his scoff in the direction of the Los Angeles Lakers and the attention LA is getting after making a a pair off off-season blockbusters that netted them a pair of stars destined for the basketball hall of fame.

Perk doesn’t like the way his Oklahoma City Thunder have sort of been pushed aside as the media has anointed Kobe Bryant and the Lakers as the best team in the west, if not the NBA.

“We are the Western Conference champs,” Perkins told Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman. “So at the end of the day, we’re not chasing nobody except for the ring. We’re chasing Miami to get a championship. It’s no guarantee who is going to be where. But we earned the Western champs so we’re not chasing the Lakers, we’re chasing a championship and that’s what it’s about.”

Perkins has said that the Lakers addition of Dwight Howard has given him the fuel to train harder in the off-season. There was a time when Perkins was a Celtic and Dwight Howard had anointed him as the best defending big man in the league. Perkins was also supposed to be a big difference-maker when coming to OKC, but has failed miserably while trying to live up to the hype surrounding the deal that sent Jeff Green to Boston. Not that Green in Bean Town  has been anything special for the Celtics either.

“I just said it’s time to go to work,” Perkins said. “I knew the hype was going to be over there on that end and all that. But I’m glad the attention is off us because we’re the type that likes to put our hard hats on and do stuff and keep it under the radar. And at the end of the day, when you look at the box score, Oklahoma won. That’s the way we like to keep it.

Perkins may have a point in all of this. The Oklahoma City Thunder are still the team to beat out west and they proved that by making their first appearance in the NBA Finals last season. The only team they should be focused on improving over is the Miami Heat, but the thought of Dwight, Kobe, Nash and Pau knocking at their door has to be an issue for Perkins and OKC.

As if preparing for the reigning champion Miami Heat wasn’t tough enough already, now they’ll have a dog-fight in their own conference just to get a crack at LeBron James and the Heat next season.

“Now, we know what to expect,” Perkins said. “So it’s less talking and more playing on my end. We know what to expect and we know what it takes. We know that it takes the little things and we’ll be ready.”

Perkins Somewhat Disses The Lakers

Perk isn’t even sweating the reloaded Lakers, he’s looking past  them. Now that’s a championship mentality. “I knew the hype was going to be over there on them and all that. But I’m glad the attention is off us because we’re the type that likes to put our hard hats on and do stuff and keep it under the radar. And at the end of the day, when you look at the box score...

Perk on the Lakers: We’re not chasing nobody

Our favorite Western conference center – Kendrick Perkins – didn’t mince words (shocking, I know) when asked about the revamped Lakers: “We are the Western Conference champs,” Perkins said. “So at the end of the day, we’re not chasing nobody except for the ring. We’re chasing Miami to get a championship. It’s no guarantee who is going to be where. But we earned...

Kendrick Perkins doesn’t like all the Lakers talk

No question the Los Angeles Lakers have made the most news of any team in the off season. After the NBA Finals Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder were still the clear favorites to get back to the NBA Finals . However now the Lakers have traded for Steve Nash and Dwight Howard and only shipped Andrew Bynum out. So how about Thunders starting center Kendrick Perkins...

Kendrick Perkins Believes In The Status Quo

It’s only been about three months since Miami defeated Oklahoma City in the NBA Finals, but a lot has changed in the Western Conference.  By a lot, I mean the Los Angeles Lakers.  As you know, the Purple & Gold have added a bushel of current and former All-Stars.  These additions go by the names of Steve Nash, Antawn Jamison, and Dwight Howard, and many figure that they’ll...

Griffin: Lakers look great 'on paper'

Clippers star Blake Griffin recently said that while the moves the Lakers made this summer look great on paper, that doesn't mean the Lakers don't have to prove it on the court.

World Peace wants Lakers to break Bulls' record for wins in a season

NBA training camps have not opened yet, but Lakers forward Metta World Peace has already established a rather outlandish goal for his team. In a recent radio interview, World Peace said the Lakers - who have added Dwight Howard and Steve Nash to a team that already includes Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol - are out to break the NBA record for the best regular-season record, which is...

The Assist: young Kobe Bryant with his father, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant

Since taking over his Facebook page, Kobe Bryant has provided a glimpse into the softer side of the “Black Mamba.” This photo he posted has to be one of my favorites! It’s a young Kobe seated next to his dad, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant. He even had a fro!

Dwight Howard and Around the Horn's Tony Reali cameo on Disney cartoon (Video)

Personally, I don't find myself watching the Disney XD cartoon series, "Kick Buttowski" that often but when Lakers center Dwight Howard and Around the Horn host Tony Reali make a cameo on it, it needs to be seen.In an upcoming episode called "Rocked", Howard plays Rock Callahan (a action movie hero) that faces off against Reali's villain known as "...

Blake Griffin on Lakers, "On paper it looks great"

For the first time in forever, the Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers rivalry actually has substance than in year's past. After the Lakers acquired both Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, the Clippers appear to have taken the back seat again in the City of Angels but if you ask Clippers star Blake Griffin, the Lake Show at this point are "great on paper" and that the Clippers...

Superman's Greatest Weakness Is Not Kryptonite

With a smile so big, it is often hard to see this gentle giant being the largest force in the NBA today.  Dwight Howard often times is larger than life, leaving opponents without options to stop the big man.  Finally, Dwight will be on a legitimate title contender (Sorry Orlando) and teams will be looking for ways to slow down the all star center.  A few teams...
