While the Knicks await the return of Tyson Chandler, they can take comfort in knowing that at least some good has come out of their All-Star center’s absence. Without Chandler filling the paint on defense, Kenyon Martin has been thrust into a key role. He has come through over and over. Now that the playoffs are looming, the Knicks look to be in strong position to make some noise. The discovery of Martin is key, as the veteran big man bolsters their frontcourt, which has been decimated by injuries. The Knicks’ resurgence is bad news for the Celtics, who look destined for no better than the No. 7 seed in the East. A recent falloff in play and a second wave of key injuries has hit the Celtics hard, and the returns of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are still open-ended.
