Carmelo Anthony has officially wrapped up the 2012-2013 NBA scoring title, as Kevin Durant has announced he will not be suiting up for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s game against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. KD made the announcement with a message on his Instagram account Wednesday morning. The end of the NBA season can be boring for most teams who already have their playoff spot cemented, so it’s no surprise the Thunder have decided to rest Durant for the playoffs. With only one game remaining, Oklahoma City has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. Risking an injury to their best player for the sake of personal accolades would not be a wise decision. Oh yeah, and there’s one thing Durant did not mention in his brief Instagram announcement. He would have had to score 70 points against the Hawks to surpass Anthony, who has been on fire since he returned from injury last month. While the Thunder could have constantly fed Durant the ball and let him chase the scori...

Kevin Durant takes to Instagram to concede NBA scoring title (photo)

With Oklahoma Thunder superstar Kevin Durant scoring average currently sitting at 28.1 points/game, according to some statistical calculations courtesy of the wonder that is mathematics, the only chance he had of securing his third-straight NBA season scoring title was to drop 70 points on the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night in the team’s season finale. Kevin Durant Will Sit Out Against Bucks, Concedes Scoring Title on Instagram (Photo)

Kevin Durant would need to score more than 70 points to surpass current points leader Carmelo Anthony to take the 2012-13 NBA scoring title. The sidelined Anthony will take the title with no contest from Durant. Durant posted a photo on his Instagram account on Wednesday morning stating that he will sit out of Wednesday night’s game. Durant sitting out, Melo takes scoring title

With the best record in the Western Conference all wrapped up, the Oklahoma City Thunder do not have anything to play for with the Milwaukee Bucks coming to town tonight. The same cannot be said for Kevin Durant, who had a (very slim) shot at winning his fourth consecutive scoring title. Rather than risk injury and try to score as much as possible, Durant will be sitting out...

The Wins Produced NBA Award Winners

Advanced statistics have made quite a bit of headway in the basketball world over the past couple of years.  However, the general public, NBA pundits, and NBA front offices still tend to fawn over players that score a lot of points, regardless of how efficient they are.  Which is why a player like Carmelo Anthony, who the advanced stat Wins Produced ranks as the seventh (!!) top...

Kevin Durant Says If You Are Mad He Won’t Win The Scoring Title “Oh Well”

In five seconds, tell me how many scoring titles Michael Jordan won and how many titles he won. You guessed on one, but you knew the other without even thinking. Scoring titles are nice, but in the grand scheme of things, they mean nothing. Kevin Durant knows that and I hope Carmelo Anthony knows that as well. Want to be a legendary player? Have to get the ring and any fan that doesn’t...
