We have only seen Kevin Love play 18 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season, and there is a chance that may not change before the year is over. Love broke bones in his shooting hand before the season started and then broke the same bones again in a game against the Denver Nuggets on January 3. He has a CT scan scheduled for later this week to see how the bones are healing. He is hoping to resume full-contact practice by next week, which could mean he would return to the lineup next week. However, just because he could does not mean he should. Just like the Cleveland Cavaliers had to ask themselves when Kyrie Irving went down with an injury: What is the point in a return this season? The Timberwolves are 24-44, obviously nowhere near the playoff picture. What reason can you give for Kevin Love playing in the last 10 or so games of the year? The risk he runs of re-injuring himself in an inconsequential game is too high to put him out on the floor. O...

Love nearing return to court for Wolves

MINNEAPOLIS There's a reddish scar snaking down the middle of Kevin Love's right hand. You see it a bit more, now that the swelling has gone down, now that the hand looks a bit more like a hand and less like an overfilled, lumpy balloon. It's been almost 10 weeks since Love's Jan. 15 surgery and the most conservative estimates of his return date are soon arriving...

Timberwolves need even a pricey Pekovic

MINNEAPOLIS In the NBA, no discovery comes without its price. Last season, Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman admitted to using Nikola Pekovic sparingly when he first was cleared after his early-season injury solely because Adelman didn't know what he had. The new coach leaned on Darko Milicic at center until that became an idea too crazy for even the craziest to stomach, and only...

Wolves Monday: Favorable schedule ahead

MINNEAPOLIS The Timberwolves practiced Monday before heading out on a one-game trip to Detroit, where they play Tuesday night. In a trick of the schedule, the Pistons are the last team the Timberwolves have not played yet this season, and they'll face them again just more than a week later, on April 6. Those two Detroit games, along with one against Toronto on April 5, present...

Did Kobe foul Ricky Rubio on final shot?

Kobe Bryant got away with a blatant foul on Ricky Rubio on the last play of the Los Angeles Lakers-Minnesota Timberwolves game Wednesday. The Lakers were up 120-117 with 3.4 seconds left and had Kobe at the free throw line. Bryant made his first attempt but missed his second. Rubio grabbed the rebound off the miss, took the ball up the court, and attempted a tying three-pointer from...

Timberwolves 105, Pistons 82

The scouting report against the Minnesota Timberwolves is pretty simple - pack the paint, because they can't shoot 3-pointers. Don't tell that to the Detroit Pistons. The Timberwolves, who came into the game shooting a league-worst 29 percent from behind the arc, hit 14 3-pointers Tuesday night in a 105-82 rout of the hapless Detroit Pistons. ''We were due for...
