Post Game Recap
Final Score: Knicks: 98 Raptors: 100
The Knicks are playing some bad basketball right now and are in the midst of their worst stretch under Mike Woodson. Tonight’s loss runs the Knicks losing streak to four games as the same problems with inconsistent effort being their demise yet again. The Knicks brought it for only half of the game on the defensive end and struggle on offense all night resulting in yet another lose. The Knicks were unable to get into any type of rhythm as a lot of whistling blowing by the referees and poor ball handling. With the lose tonight the Knicks drop to third place in the Eastern Conference as the Pacers victory catapults them ahead of the Knicks. If not for the Knicks old friend Jeremy Lin and the Rockets beating the Nets the Knicks would have fallen even further down the standings.
J.R. Smith played one of his better games of late as he played under control and within himself tonight. Smith scored 19 points on seven of 12 shots, including three of six from the three-point line. Smith is an integral part of the Knicks success so he getting back on track would be a welcome addition to a struggling Knicks team. Tonight Smith also added four rebounds and four assists, playing a nice complete game and being one of the only bright spots for the Knicks tonight.
Jason Kidd stuffed the stat sheet tonight, filling up the scorecard. Tonight Kidd helped a little in every category, scoring six points, grabbing a team high tying seven rebounds, dishing four assists, getting two steals and one block as well. Kidd played 32 minutes, still a little too much for him if he is to stay fresh at the end of the season but the Knicks needed him tonight. Kidd has to get more aggressive on the offensive end though as he passes up too many open jump shots. Passing up open shots hurts the offense as it ruins the flow and throws everything out of whack. Passing on an open shot is worse than a miss in most cases.
Carmelo Anthony did everything he could in carrying the Knicks offense tonight as he scored 32 points on 11 of 24 from the field. Anthony continues to struggle with his jump shot as he went one of eight from the three-point line, equaling a three for 20 stretch from deep for him. Tonight Anthony also added six rebounds and four assists. His defensive lapses will have to become few and further between for the Knicks to be successful though as the rest of the players follow his act while on the court.
The Knicks let the referees affect their play too often. Every time the whistle is blown a Knicks player has something to say about it to the referee. They need to just focus on what is going on on the court and control what they can. Letting the referees get into their heads is a recipe for disaster as it throws them off their game. The Knicks mental toughness is not where it needs to be.
Rudy Gay went off on the Knicks tonight, as the defensive assignments must have made Gay feel like he was back in high school. The Knicks deployed Kidd on him for most of the night and it became even easier when the Knicks would switch on screens as Gay got to torment Tyson Chandler and Amar’e Stoudemire. On the night Gay scored 32 points on 11 of 23 shooting from the field. He also added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Gay has brought a different culture and attitude to the Raptors who have won seven of 10 since his arrival, with two of those victories over the Knicks.
The turnovers are starting to pile up for the Knicks. They still have the least turnovers per game in the NBA but their number continues to climb as they are up to 11.6 now. Tonight they turned the ball over 17 total times. That number is way too high and attributed to the Knicks problems on the offensive end tonight. Multiple moving screen violations were called against the Knicks tonight, resulting in almost 20 percent of their turnovers on the night. Anthony, Chandler and Stoudemire all had three turnovers tonight with most of Chandler’s and Stoudemire’s of the moving screen variety.

'TRYING TO GET THE PIPE?'
JR Smith is quite the ladies’ man. The New York Knicks guard has had dalliances with the likes of musicians Rihanna and K. Michelle. He has dated the large-bottomed ex-girlfriend of rapper Joe Budden, and this heavily-tattooed model. Smith is in high demand when it comes to the ladies, so excuse him if he just gets right to the point when he senses a woman is interested in him...
Jeremy Lin returns to New York City Friday night and — even though his Rockets will be playing the Nets in Brooklyn — the the former Madison Square Garden exile will make his appearance at Barclays Center in a foul mood — and with a healthier heart.
After receiving his first technical foul for arguing with a referee Wednesday, the former Knicks star tweeted his anger about...
New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith had a direct message coversation with a girl over Twitter last month while he was in Philadelphia taking on the Sixers. Deadspin reported that the girl in this conversation is a senior in high school. Who knows if Smith knew the age of the girl but he definitely isn’t one for romance.
I’m more mad that I’ve never used “you trying to get...
Tweet Unless they’re Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard, NBA players sometimes develop bonds with their teammates. They spend a lot of time together practicing and on the road and form friendships with one another. Apparently that’s the case with the Houston Rockets, as Jeremy Lin said he didn’t feel like playing after the Rockets traded [...]
JR Smith and Twitter are the source of endless amount of unexpected comedy. I like to refer to Twitter as dine and deliver for athletes. Their follower list is like a menu where they order up their entrees via DM. Last month while the Knicks were on a road trip in Philly, one of JR’s followers sent him a DM to let him know she’d be attending his game against the Sixers. From...
Deadspin was at it again today as they posted a conversation between J.R. Smith and a female follower in which he asked the high school girl if she was “trying to get the pipe,” in response to her attending his game that night.
As you can imagine, the phrase “You trying to get the pipe,” is taking Twitter by storm, calling for the hashtag “#YouTryinToGetThePipe.
JR Smith is a true pipe layer.
Tweet New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith has a history of shenanigans on Twitter. Last year Smith was fined $25,000 for tweeting a pic of a model’s hind parts in his hotel room. Smith has also been known to get into twitter confrontations and actively engages with his followers. Deadspin published a story earlier Thursday leaking a [...]
It hasn’t been J.R. Smith’s week. He was ejected from the game against the Pacers on Wednesday. The next day a provocative text with a high school girl leaked online, and now reports suggest him getting testy with Knicks assistant coach, Herb Williams.
According to the NY Post:
Smith also had an incident with the Knicks’ mild-mannered assistant coach, Herb Williams. In the...
The Houston Rockets are on a roll as of late and they were up to much of the same when they defeated the Brooklyn Nets Friday night. Of course, one particular highlight revolves around point guard Jeremy Lin as he distributed a few pretty assists just like this no-look pass to Donatas Motiejunas. This assist is the second [...]The post Jeremy Lin’s No-Look Pass to Donatas...
Is it possible that Mike Woodson and the Knicks brass are looking at a different team then we are? The New York Knicks have been playing in a downward spiral the last month or so and where does it end? The Knicks need a reality check and a quick energy infusion to get them to focus on the task at hand, winning the Atlantic. This goal is slipping away, as the Brooklyn Nets are on...

76ers vs. Knicks
For the first time in the Mike Woodson era the Knicks will enter a game on a four-game losing streak. It is not to panic yet for the Knicks, as they still sit atop the Atlantic Division, but that can change depending on the result of the game tonight. The Knicks need to start picking up victories over divisional opponents, as that is a...
76ers @ Knicks: MSG 7pm
The Knicks are back home, losers of four in a row and five of six. They are stumbling to regain their identity. Their effort in the road loss to the Raptors was only on display in the second and fourth quarters. It is obvious they are relying heavily on isolation basketball. They jumped out to scoring 32 points in the first quarter, but gave up just...
