This was a terrific game overall even though the Knicks streak had to end. The game was just very entertaining. But it was especially frustrating for two reasons. One being that the Knicks have now lost all four games they played against the Bulls this year. They could have real trouble with this team come playoff time. And two was that they had the last shot right at the end of regulation in which Carmelo got a very good look to end the game. But he didn’t knock it down and the game went into overtime where the Knicks lost control of things in part due to Nate Robinson. The Bulls seem to really give the Knicks trouble with their tough harrowing defense. Also they had the former Knick Nate Robinson on their side and he was the x-factor for them. He had thirty five points in just thirty three minutes, the Knicks didn’t have an answer for him the whole night. Two times in this game the Knicks had built double digit leads, both times in separate halves. And two times the Bulls were able to pull themselves back into the game by forcing the Knicks outside and causing them to shoot too many threes. Its also of note that the Knicks were playing without both of their centers, Tyson Chandler missed this game and Kenyon Martin still having ankle problems. That may have had some effect on the defense for the Knicks, because if one of them had possibly been in the game then you could almost guarantee that Nate Robinson wouldn’t have scored so easily in the paint. Maybe the Knicks focused too much on doubling up on Carlos Boozer and that allowed Robinson to score more easily. Maybe they didn’t play well enough with the big leads they had gained and should have forced the ball inside more. The point is that the Knicks weren’t going to win every game going into the playoffs. They needed to face some adversity before the post-season it could actually help them. Now we get a chance to see how they respond to a loss, because they are going to face a bunch of adversity in the post-season and they’re going to need to find ways to overcome it.
