Kobe Bryant calls David Stern’s proposal a “stupid idea”
Photo Credit: By David Becker, Getty Images

Kobe Bryant is on fire, and not the good fire we associate with draining jump shots. First, Kobe said the current USA team could beat the Deam Team, which drew the ire from former players and analysts. Then a few days ago, made fun of President Obama’s failed kiss attempt during their game against Brazil. So what did Kobe have on tap for an encore? How about calling his boss’s proposal to restrict NBA players over the age of 23 from participating in the Olympics a stupid idea. Oh boy.

“It’s a stupid idea,” Bryant told local news reporters at the reception to welcome them to Manchester in advance of Thursday night’s exhibition game against Team Great Britain. “It should be a (player’s) choice.”

Asked how much he and his Team USA teammates have talked about Stern’s proposal since getting together in Las Vegas on July 5, Bryant said: “Our discussion is this: Basically, it’s just a dumb idea and we (discuss) it that way.”

For the record, if the proposal passes, this could be the last time we see a stacked USA basketball team play against other countries top competition. Kobe also went on to say, the reason the owners would want this is to protect their investments.

Maybe Kobe Bryant thinks he has another Olympic run in him after this year. For the record, Kobe would be 37 nearly 38-years-old when the Olympics comes back in four years.

Kobe Bryant Believes Team USA Players Should Lose Citizenship If They Don't Win Olympic Gold

The USA men's Olympic basketball team is littered with talent from wall to wall. So much so that team leader Kobe Bryant said that members of the USA team should have their citizenship revoked, should they return home from London with anything less than gold. Now, this is a little extreme for Bryant to say, although he has been very vocal since joining the squad out in Los Angeles...

Poll Question: Should There be an Age Restriction on NBA Players Headed to the Olympics?

When Kobe Bryant caught wind that David Stern was tossing around the idea that members of team USA be age 23 or younger, he called the idea “stupid.” Calm down, Mr. Bryant, this isn’t the worst idea the commissioner has proposed. Kobe Bryant On David Stern’s New Proposal: “It’s A Stupid Idea”

Commissioner David Stern has a new proposal: the restriction of NBA players over the age of 23 from participating in the Olympics. Kobe Bryant doesn’t exactly like that idea: “‘It’s a stupid idea,’ Bryant told local news reporters at the reception to welcome them to Manchester in advance of Thursday night’s exhibition game against Team Great Britain. ‘It should be a...

Kobe Bryant on potential under-23 Team USA: ‘It’s a stupid idea, stupid’

Kobe Bryant and Mark Cuban do not agree when it comes to the Olympics. As you probably know, Cuban is the most enthusiastic Olympic hater in sports. He roots for Team USA to fail because he feels that the concept of allowing players who are under contract with NBA teams to risk injury in international competition is incredibly dumb. David Stern obviously agrees with Cuban in some...

In London, Bryant Talks "Stupid" About U-23 Age Limit

When basketball fans pack Manchester Arena on Thursday night all eyes will be on Team USA and the host team Great Britain with the 2012 London Olympics a little over a week away. This is more than a friendly game, even if the match-up isn’t expected to be competitive. Because the closer we get to the Games opening, national pride will start to ramp up and emotions flowing...

Current Dream Team vs. the 1992 Dream Team:

This is a little bit of old news at this point, but Kobe Bryant let it be known that he thought the current version of the Dream Team could beat the original Dream Team. My initial thought was to scoff at him completely; it’s one thing if he wanted to compare the team that was planned for the Olympics, but now that Rose, Dwight, et al there seems to be a sizable gap. Rather than...

NBA Board approves small changes

The NBA Board of Governors approved a new look for uniforms and a couple of changes in the use of video replay. Commissioner David Stern met with the media Thursday after the Board of Governors held their annual summer meeting. He said the league is looking to add possibly $100 million in revenue by permitting small advertising patches on uniforms starting in the 2013-14 season...

Lakers won't use amnesty provision on World Peace

The Lakers declined to use their "amnesty" provision before Tuesday's deadline, meaning Metta World Peace can keep partying. The team could have waived him without having to pay luxury taxes on his salary, though the Lakers decided against it. World Peace, 32, has two more years and 15 million left on his contract. As per terms of the new collective-bargaining agreement...

Hubris makes this Team USA unlikeable

This may ruffle a few feathers, many will call me un-American or some other crazy name, but I have grown to dislike this years version of Team USA. Why you ask? Hubris. Hubris is defined as an overbearing pride or presumption; arrogance. Let’s be honest, that pretty much defines 80% of this Team USA roster. Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Blake Griffin (he was a part...

Lin's exit surprises Knicks players

Mike D'Antoni was there for the start of Linsanity, Kobe Bryant on the wrong end of its greatest highlight. Neither imagined next season opening without Jeremy Lin on the New York Knicks. ''No. Not when the kicker was they can match. I'm thinking, for sure,'' said former Knicks coach D'Antoni on Wednesday before the U.S. Olympic team practiced. '...
