Ah, the summer of 1996 seems so long ago. At this point it’s a footnote to a Hall of Fame career, but remember that Kobe Bryant was once (very briefly) property of the Charlotte Hornets. The story goes that the Lakers and Hornets worked out a trade the day before the 1996 NBA draft, and that Los Angeles told Charlotte to select Bryant with their first-round pick at the very last minute. To get him, L.A. gave up center Vlade Divac. So, despite the fact that he never played a game for the franchise, and was never realistically a part of the team, Bryant does have that memory of being drafted by the Hornets. Bryant also apparently has a photo from draft day still lying around, as he tweeted out an image of him wearing a Charlotte Hornets cap through Instagram in honor of the Bobcats’ impending name change. Check out Bryant doing some hardcore trolling of Charlotte basketball fans in the photo below. Photo via Instagram/kobebryant

Guess who trolled the (Charlotte) Hornets?

The big announcement in the NBA today, and the worst kept secret, was that the Charlotte Bobcats would bring back the Hornets name to the city in 2014. The New Orleans Pelicans, left Charlotte after 2002 and took the name with them. Charlotte is reclaiming name with the change in New Orleans. But is it possible the original Charlotte Hornets would still be in existence had things...

Phil Jackson on coaching Shaq and Kobe: ‘Hardest challenge’ in 20 years

It is amazing how little Phil Jackson revealed throughout his twenty years of coaching. Once in awhile, there would be a snippet here and there in the media of the legendary coach trying to antagonize the refs, or prod one of his star players, but rarely did he admit to the difficulties of all the personalities he had to deal with, especially Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. But...

Over the weekend, Kobe announced that he had a “big” announcement coming. Many thought it was retirement. It wasn’t, Kobe and his foundation, “The Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Foundation” is teaming...

Designed by Eric Avar, the original 2008 Nike Hyperdunk seamlessly fused...

Kobe Bryant Plans to Spend Time With Dwight Howard to Convince Him to Stay

Kobe isn’t a dumb person, no matter what you think of Dwight Howard personally, if he leaves the Lakers, it will lessen their chances of winning next year. Next year, maybe all that Kobe has left, so it makes sense that he will try to convince him to stay. He has no real alternative  but to try to make it work with Dwight. Lakers are ready to hitch their wagon to Dwight for the...
