The Other Paper:
Even after 14 All-Star seasons, Kobe Bryant has been called just about everything while visiting an NBA opponent's building. But one thing he is usually never called outside the comfy confines of Staple Center is, "M-V-P!."
Bryant didn't hear the chant only once during the Lakers game against the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center Tuesday night — but three different times.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar didn't let the Brooklyn fans down after this emphatic, one-handed dunk between the Nets' bookends Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries after the "M-V-P!" serenade.
With 2:45 left to play, Bryant delighted the easily swayed Brooklyn crowd by slicing and dicing the dumbfounded duo with the right-handed jam to give his team an 82-80 lead.
Bryant later drove past Wallace for a layup with 1:42 left for an 86-83 lead and stole a Wallace pass with 45 seconds left to kill any chance for the Nets to make it a one-possession game.
"I was pretty shocked that the lane was so open. I think everybody's been drinking the Kobe-Pass Kool-Aid," said Bryant, who finished with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for a 92-83 win. "So everybody kind of stayed on the perimeter with the shooters. It just parted like the Red Sea so I felt a little like Moses."
Bryant claimed the play tweaked his sore elbow, but he resisted rubbing it down while the Brooklyn crowd went crazy because he didn't want to "mess up the swagger."
Even Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni was awestruck by the fantastic dunk.
"The dunk was pretty awesome so I don't know how hurt he is," said D'Antoni. "I'm sure he's banged up, but he gets his rhythm."
"From my perspective it's pretty cool," said Bryant about the love from the stands. "I enjoyed it immensely."
The Barclays Center crowd seems to agree.

Kobe Bryant has been in the NBA for 16 years. He has won five NBA championships and once scored 81 points in a single game, so you could say he has earned the right to talk trash to just about any player he pleases on the court. However, Kobe says it takes a certain type of player to return the smack talk.
What type of player is that? An older one like Paul Pierce, for example.
Kobe Bryant looked like he had an extra boost in his protein smoothie yesterday. As the Lakers took on the Brooklyn Nets on their home court, Bryant took it upon himself to break [...]
As great as athletes are, Father Time is undefeated. Kobe Bryant is 34 years old, 17 years in the NBA, and has logged over 40,000 minutes on the hardwood. As great as Kobe is, he has made it clear that his time in the league is coming to a close. With just one more [...]
The Los Angeles Lakers are struggling but Kobe Bryant is not. In the Lakers 92 -83 win over the Brooklyn Nets, we had a flash back to the young Kobe. Late in the 4th quarter with the game tied at 80 it was time for Bryant to take over. Bryant just drove right down the lane and he dunked over Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries. The Lakers finished the game on 10 -3 run after the Bryant...
One of the things that made Michael Jordan so great is he had a burning desire to be great. It was almost like an obsession. His competitive nature was legendary and something that not many could live up to.
Kobe Bryant shares this type of obsession, he wants Dwight Howard to have it as well, but Dwight isn’t wired that way. He’s wired in a more clownish way.
With that being...
Dwight Howard responded Thursday to Kobe Bryant and others who have questioned him regarding his shoulder injury, telling them to back off.
Howard re-aggravated his shoulder injury last week and has missed the team’s past three games. He said after the Lakers’ win at Brooklyn Tuesday that he is “not in any rush” to return until his injury heals. Bryant wants to see some...
The Lakers are an entertaining bunch.
Dwight Howard vs. Kobe Bryant is the closest we will get to Pacquiao vs. Mayweather. Kobe essentially said Dwight is a sensitive clown who needs to play hurt.
Here was Dwight reply to that courtesy of Pro Basketball Talk.
“That’s his opinion. That’s it. He’s not a doctor, I’m not a doctor.”’
“”I want to play, I mean, why wouldn’t...
Kobe Bryant had 21 points and eight rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers overcame the absences of Dwight Howard and Metta World Peace, and the loss of Pau Gasol to beat the Brooklyn Nets 92-83 on Tuesday night.

Kobe Bryant is clear about this: He does not like the Celtics, and he never wants to wear green. But that doesn’t mean he won’t get caught fraternizing with the enemy.
Bryant showed an affinity for Boston sports in an interview with ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan before the Lakers got ready to play the Celtics on Thursday night. He shared the distaste he had for the Celtics when he...
Just going off of personalities, it would be easy to conclude that Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would have little in-common. Bryant has never been known to hold his tongue and Belichick is notoriously known for never having much to say. No way the two could ever end [...]
