As you can see by the title, you know what the next 500 or so plus words are all about. So before I go any further, let me just say this…..Kobe Bryant will never win another title unless he leaves the Los Angeles Lakers, which he won’t do. Period!! I’m not saying this because he is a middle age, shooting guard that’s been in the league for 17 years with lots of NBA miles, trying to come back from a torn Achilles. I’m saying this because of the current state of the Lakers as a team, a franchise. Financially the Lakers are bent over a barrel, the core of the Lakers roster is super old, and with the death of Dr. Buss, there is a power struggle over who should really be running the team. Jeanie Buss, or her brother Jim who has been for quite sometime and has made some very questionable moves. When you factor all of this in along with the amount of time Kobe has left, I just don’t see Kobe winning a title again as it will take some for the Lakers to become a legitimate title contenders once more. Unless Kobe lets go of his desire to retire as a Laker, and signs with the Oklahoma City Thunder or Miami Heat for the veteran minimum. His Larry O’Brien Trophy collecting days are over. Now that I got that off my chest, let me fill you in on what’s up. As you may have heard, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles is reporting, Kobe has made it clear that he wants “two more cracks at it to win seven NBA titles at least.” And that he wants to be “back next season with a vengeance.” In addition to these comments, Kobe made it clear that next season won’t be his last. These comments were made shortly after Kobe made public his slogan for next year, “The Last Chapter” which caused a stir as many started to wonder if next season will be Kobe’s last. Kobe also stated that he isn’t far from fully starting his rehab on his Achilles and has been doing some light walking on a special inclosed treadmill that adjusts the gravity so that the amount of weight Kobe is applying to his Achilles can be adjusted. He has been walking in this special inclosed treadmill with a special pair of shoes that Nike made for him that gives him extra support for his Achilles. If there is anyone who can come back from a torn Achilles and still play at a very high level, it’s Kobe. However as I said in the every beginning, his title winning days are over. I understand for him it’s about winning just as many, if not more titles than Michael Jordan. But right now, the only thing KB24 can do is surpass Jordan on the all time scorers list. He trails Jordan by 675 points. He is as close Mike as we have seen since Mike, but he’s not quite as good as Mike. So Kobe coming in second to Jordan in some areas, is the way it should be when you really look at it. Definitely an all time great, but not the greatest.
