Kristaps Porzingis on Wednesday took to Instagram to share a positive message following surgery Tuesday for a torn ACL.

The post includes a photograph of Porzingis departing the hospital in a car with his left leg heavily braced.

“First of all I want to thank you for all the love and support,” Porzingis writes in the post. “Im (sic) attacking my rehab right away. I truly believe that with consistent hard work, patience and positive attitude I’ll come back stronger, better and sharper than ever. Much love”

The Knicks issued a statement on Tuesday deeming the surgery a success.

Porzingis suffered the injury last week in a game against the Milwaukee Bucks, tearing the ACL in his left knee following a dunk over Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The initial timetable for Porzingis’ recovery is being estimated anywhere from nine to 10 months or possibly even up to one year. That said, there’s no chance Porzingis will be ready for the start of the 2018-19 NBA season. Perhaps December is a more reasonable expectation, and even that is a best-case scenario.

The Knicks, slowly but surely, were making steady progress back to some semblance of respectability this season with Porzingis as the centerpiece. To have their 22-year-old budding superstar go down with a season-ending injury is without question a huge setback. But the hope is the 7-foot-3 Latvian will recover as quickly as possible and be back on the floor well before next season’s All-Star Break.
