Laker faithful could sense the season hanging in the balance, the team’s need for a signature win, and the effort the Lakers were putting into this game.Pau: “There’s a certain level of compromise and commitment that we all need to accept.”— Ramona Shelburne (@ramonashelburne) January 28, 2013The Lakers finally entered their “discomfort zones” to earn the win. Kobe facilitated from the start – earning 14 assists. Nash played off ball for most of the game, and looked to shoot first when he got the rock, punishing the Thunder defense for playing the passing lanes. Pau Gasol accepted his role of the bench, and played big. Dwight Howard committed himself to defense, touches be damned. The Lakers all did the dirty work that they have been reluctant to do in the past, and came away with a signature win.Haven’t heard Lakers fans this loud since before the season opener started. Have plenty to cheer about today— Mark Medina (@MedinaLakersNBA) January 27, 2013In response, the fans were as loud as they have been all year. Despite LakerNation being down on Dwight recently, the fans all cheered for the big man every time he went to the line – supporting him amidst a horrid shooting night from the stripe. The building nearly exploded as the Lakers took control late in the game, and finally ended with a standing ovation at Staples as the clock ran down. This was the best game of the season.Lakers fans ecstatic. Not just because they’re getting free tacos.— Mike Bresnahan (@Mike_Bresnahan) January 27, 2013High Point:Late in the fourth quarter, an incredible pass from Kobe to Earl Clark for a slam got the fans riled up.What a play by Kobe and what a JAM by Clark!!! WOW.— Chris Manning (@LD2k) January 27, 2013On the next possession, Russell Westbrook took to the skies to try to send one home on Pau Gasol. Instead, Russell sent the ball out of bounds, resulting in a turnover. Incensed, Westbrook went after the referee, and drew a T. The fans rejoiced. Everyone was on their feet, ecstatic to see the Lakers up late in a close game, and the Thunder losing their composure. It was wonderful.WESTBROOK T’D UP!— Lakerholicz (@Lakerholicz) January 27, 2013Fan of the Night:The middle aged bald man in a goatee on the jumbotron late in the fourth. Decked out in yellow Laker gear, his epic dance can only be described as a standing up seizure – he went full retard. Staples Center even replayed his dance on the jumbotron. It was fantastic.Runner Up: This is a tie – the two fans sitting next to each other who brought cut outs of Nash and Kobe’s heads and flailed them around after every big play.Another fan had a license plate that said Kobe-Wan. ‘Nuff Said. The post Lakers Crowd Report: Laker Nation Drowns out the Thunder in L.A. appeared first on Laker Nation.

Pau Gasol angry over benching

Lakers star Pau Gasol expressed extreme dissatisfaction over his being benched in the 4th quarter during Tuesday's game against the Hornets.

Pau Gasol Angry over Benching

When you go from a key contributor to two NBA Championship teams to a bench player, it can be safe to assume that a player may not exactly be pleased with his changed role. This is the case for Lakers forward Pau Gasol, who has been demoted to a bench player and has seen his minutes decrease. Although the Lakers are now riding a 3-game winning streak, not everyone is happy in...

Pau Gasol Won’t Request Trade But Can’t See Himself Accepting Bench Role Long Term

Pau Gasol isn’t OK with coming off the bench, and doesn’t see himself embracing it for the long term. But the Lakers’ forward told CBSSports.com Monday he will not request a trade before the Feb. 21 deadline and is committed to the Lakers for the rest of this season. “Not right now,” Gasol said when asked if he or anyone on his behalf would lodge a trade request before...

Dwight Howard Says He’s Sick of All the Negativity

I wonder why Dwight wouldn’t say this to Kobe when Bean ask him did he have a problem with him? Kobe is saying the Lakers should have more attitude while Dwight saying the team is too negative. Who is right and who is wrong? “Negativity just got to stop,” Howard said via ESPN after the team’s shootaround Friday. “I’m sick of hearing about it. I’m sick of hearing about...

Gasol Won't Request Trade This Season, Can't Envision Permanent Bench Role

Pau Gasol said he would find it difficult to be a bench player beyond the remainder of the current season.

Chances the Lakers Keep Dwight Howard at 50-50

The Los Angeles Lakers' struggles this season are well-documented.  They have a new team that looks on paper like it should compete with anyone, but injuries and an inability to adjust have left the team on the outside looking in.  For them to make the playoffs at this point, the team would have to go on a magical second-half run.  But will they have to do it without Dwight...

Report: Celtics, Grizzlies Have Held Exploratory Trade Talks Involving Gay, Gasol & Pierce

So it’s premature, to me, to throw Pierce’s name up there with Rudy Gay and Pau Gasol on the list of high-profile names available this trade season, even though we’ve heard more than one rival team speculate — given that the Celtics and Grizzlies, sources say, have indeed held some exploratory trade talks since Gay hit the market — that a three-way deal where Pierce lands...

Dwight Howard loves Kobe Bryant being confrontational

The Los Angeles Lakers had a team meeting last week where Kobe Bryant reportedly confronted Dwight Howard to ask if the big man did not like playing with him. The team lost its first game after the meeting, but they have won two in a row since then, including a victory over the defending Western Conference champion Thunder on Sunday. Howard must be in a good mood since then, because...

Lakers' stars getting on the same page

Amazing what two victories can do for a team. They were enough for Dwight Howard to give a glowing update of his relationship with Kobe Bryant. "I'm happy that me and Kobe are getting on the same page. In order for us to win, me and him have to always be together on the same page," he said after Lakers practice Monday. "We have to really lead this team. That...

Dwight Howard blows dunk against Hornets

It’s bad enough that the L.A. Lakers are having one of the most miserable seasons after beginning with such high expectations. Now it seems as though the simple things aren’t even working. Check out Dwight Howard as he takes a nice pass from Kobe Bryant and completely muffs the dunk against the Hornets Tuesday night. [...]

Lakers Stock Watch: 1/21 – 1/27

Image Credit: Noah Graham | Getty ImagesAre the real Los Angeles Lakers finally here? Well, they might just be.Despite a slow start, with losses to Chicago and Memphis, the Lakers finished the week winning two straight games against Utah and Oklahoma City, both in promising fashion.‘Shooting guard-turned-point guard’ Kobe Bryant led the Lakers to two straight wins over legitimate...

Lakers nearly waste good work vs Hornets

LOS ANGELES -- The Lakers won their third in a row, beating the New Orleans Hornets, 111-106. There's no arguing that this a much better Laker team than it was just six days ago, with Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash switching roles and Dwight Howard playing with a renewed enthusiasm. However, it also can't be argued that this team still has quite a ways to go in order to turn...

Mike D’Antoni On Kobe: Less Scoring May Be Better

The Lakers played one of their better games as a team on Friday night against the Jazz, and it didn’t go unnoticed by their head coach Mike D’Antoni. In speaking about Kobe Bryant’s 14 points, 14 assist, 9 rebound night, D”antoni suggested to ESPN L.A. that less buckets from Kobe could be best. “If you win, is it really a sacrifice or is it, ‘Yeah, you played the right...
