The Lakers will be doing quite a bit of celebrating this year. On December 28, the Lakers will retire Jamaal Wilkes' No. 52 jersey in honor of his induction into the Hall of Fame this offseason. Wilkes played eight seasons with the Lakers after starring at UCLA and playing his rookie season with the Warriors. In those eight seasons, Wilkes contributed to two championship teams and made three All-Star teams. Wilkes averaged better than 20.0 points per game three times in his Lakers career, helping bridge the gap between and keep the Lakers more than competitive while Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (who will have his statute unveiled at Staples Center this season) waited for Magic Johnson to arrive. Wilkes made his mark in the NBA with a 36-point effort in Game Six of 1980 Finals, the game Kareem famously sat out and Magic famously played center for. That was Wilkes' second championship. Wilkes is not quite a household name. He turned into the third player on those Lakers cha...

Lakers Day: Mike Brown should appoint Steve Nash Offensive Coordinator

Mike Brown is the NBA's version of a defensive mastermind. He coached his way to an NBA Finals once by placing starters like Drew Gooden, Sasha Pavolic, Larry Hughes and Zydrunas Ilgauskas in spots on the floor where they could do nothing else but become adequate defenders. On offense that year, he let LeBron James and company do whatever they wanted.  He does not have...

Worthy not crowning Lakers yet

It would be hard to find a Los Angeles Laker fan who is not claiming the 2013 NBA title before the season even starts. There is no denying that adding Dwight Howard and Steve Nash to the team make them an immensely better team, but just how good? One of the greatest Lakers of all time is not ready to give L.A. the trophy just yet. James Worthy likes their chances, but does not put...

Steve Nash, the forgotten cog

The Los Angeles Lakers never surprise anyone with their offseason acquisitions. It seemed inevitable that the Lakers would figure out a way to stay relevant after a second straight second round exit. This result would not do. Not with time running out for Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. The Lakers were in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes to varying degrees and finally landed the next...
