The Lakers were willing to give up guard Sasha Vujacic and a 2011 first-round pick in order to acquire veteran forward Joe Smith. The Lakers frontline is a strength but Vujacic has been a little used commodity for the two time defending NBA champions.
The Houston Rockets are the third team in the deal and they will receive Terrance Williams in exchange for a 2012 first rounder.
Vujacic makes $5.5 million per year and Smith will earn $1.4 million, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The move gives the Nets two future first rounders and Vujacic will be a free-agent at the end of the season. It also may indicate that the Nets have moved on from the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes and are prepared to build from the ground up via the draft.
