There’s still around nine months left until Carmelo Anthony will officially become a free agent. but that doesn’t stop the forward from talking about his future. According to the NY Daily News, Melo says he wants to stay in New York, though he doesn’t sound all that convincing: The Melo-drama Part II is under way in the wake of Anthony confirming that he plans to opt out of his contract next summer and become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career. And for the first time, Anthony hinted that it is a two-team race between the Knicks and Lakers. When asked about the long-held belief that the Lakers would pursue him, Anthony said: “What other team would they say? I don’t think they would say any other team. If you look at situations, that’s the only team that they probably would say.” The Lakers will have cap space, and Anthony is close to Kobe Bryant. Also, Anthony owns a home in Los Angeles, and his wife, La La, is a working actress in Hollywood. Needless to say, if Anthony leaves the Knicks, it won’t be for a small market team. “I’m in New York,” he said on Thursday. “Like I said, this is not something that I want to keep going on. At the end of the day, I don’t want to go anywhere, I don’t plan on going anywhere. But when that time comes, I’ll deal with that situation.” While Melo says he doesn’t want to “go anywhere”, he follows it up with a “but” – that probably doesn’t bode well for Knicks fans. Talk at this time of year is cheap, though; Laker fans know this all too well. Dwight Howard’s go to response last season was “focus on the now” when asked by reporters about his pending free agency. We all know how that story ended. Despite Dwight bolting from L.A. during the off-season, Anthony’s coach, Mike Woodson, still acknowledges the threat that the Lakers pose to the Knicks: “The Lakers franchise is totally different from any other franchise, them and the Celtics based on history, what they’ve done. Hell if I was a Laker I don’t know if I would ever have left the Lakers because of what they’d done over the years. Anthony and Kobe Bryant share a close relationship and people are expecting their friendship to factor into Melo’s decision making next summer. However, according to The Knicks Blog, Anthony doesn’t expect Bryant to try and convince him to sign with the purple and gold: Carmelo Anthony says he doesn’t expect his friend Kobe Bryant to recruit him to come play for the Lakers. “No, I think Kobe respects me as a ballplayer, as a person, as a friend, so I don’t think none of them phone calls will be coming next,” Anthony said Friday after practice. Anthony is either lying here or is genuinely naive about the free agency process. In recent times, Bryant has been known to reach out to guys like Steve Nash during free agency, as well as rivals such as Raja Bell, so one would assume that Kobe would be straight on the phone to Melo once the free agency period begins. At the very least, if the Lakers are interested in Melo’s services, management would likely ask Bryant to reach out to his friend in an attempt to lure him to the West Coast. .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } @media(min-width: 500px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } } @media(min-width: 800px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 336px; height: 280px; } }

Kobe Bryant responds to ESPN ranking him as 25th best player in the NBA

When ESPN ranked Kobe Bryant as the 25th best player in the NBA earlier this week, everyone was waiting for his reaction. Would he give an expletive-laden interview? Maybe a simple tweet saying “lol” would suffice? Bryant has done neither so far, and it seemed he was just going to ignore the ranking altogether. That’s until Eric Pincus from the Los Angeles Times spotted the...

Carmelo Anthony Gives Knicks Edge at Home in NBA’s Best True Home-Court Advantages (Photos)

Lots of teams play well at home. The Heat, Thunder, Bulls, Nets and Pacers helped build their gaudy records last season in the cozy confines of their own buildings, where all posted better win-loss records at home than on the road. Still, none of those formidable clubs had one of the best 10 home-court advantages in the NBA. Measuring the advantage a team receives from playing a...
