Apparently, if Jeanie Buss wanted it to happen, Phil Jackson could return to the Lakers and Jim Buss wouldn’t have a problem with it. According to a piece by Ric Bucher for the Hollywood Reporter, Jim is “fine” with Jackson returning to the Lakers, although it may only be in a consultant role: Jim Buss has made it clear he’s fine with Jackson being on the payroll if Jeanie chooses, but he sees his role as a consultant and nothing more. Elsewhere in the report, Jim says that he and Phil have “zero problem with each other”. I’m personally unsure whether Phil would return to coach the Lakers – although, Jeanie said the other day that she thinks her fiancé will coach again – but I could see him in more of a Pat Riley-type role, while maybe letting a guy like Kurt Rambis run the show from the sidelines. If Jim and Phil really are cool with each other, and the opportunity presents itself, maybe Phil could return to the purple and gold in the near future. After all, it wouldn’t hurt to have Phil present in meetings next summer with free agents such as LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.

  • God is Good! Perhaps Jim Buss is not the arrogant idiot as many have perceived him to be...That being said, too early to give him a "trophy." It is interesting, however, Jim's "awaking" has come at the hills of Jenny getting back into the flow with the Laker organization. She (Jenny) needed time to grieve. She is now ready to show us all she is phenomenal...a phenomenal woman...phenomenally Jenny!! And has her father's talent, personality, and most of all,the understanding of people.
  • ok then, NOW IS THE TIME! do not delay, the fans are watching.......should get Jerry West too while your at it!
  • Who is Jenny? Dr. Buss has two daughters... Jimmy and Jeanie... Jeanie having infinitely more intelligence and a much higher basketball IQ!

Get rid of little Jimmy and give Jeanie full control and the Lakers will recover very quickly!
