Lakers trio achieves feat not seen in 53 years in win over Bucks

The Los Angeles Lakers put together an impressive 19-point comeback against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night to move to 40-32 on the season. They were led by the trio of Anthony Davis (34 points, 23 rebounds, four blocks), Austin Reaves (29 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists) and D’Angelo Russell (29 points, 12 assists) on a night where star LeBron James was sidelined as the team managed his ankle injury.

Each player's performance was noteworthy, but together, they achieved a nearly unheard-of NBA feat. Davis, Reaves and Russell combined for 92 points, 44 rebounds and 24 assists, marking the first time three players on the same team have combined to reach the 90/40/20 mark in a single game in more than 50 years.

The previous trio? Another set of Lakers in Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and Happy Hairston, who did so on January 24, 1971, as OptaStats revealed.

As they detailed, the trio of Chamberlain, West and Hairston totaled 95 points, 43 rebounds and 22 assists in that game.

It was a stellar showing from the Lakers’ three key starters, as only four total Lakers scored in double figures, with Rui Hachimura chipping in 16 points and 14 rebounds. Darvin Ham’s squad found itself down by 16 after the first quarter and were unable to chip away at that lead going into the half.

But even after falling 19 points behind in the final quarter, they rallied and used a 16-2 run in the fourth quarter to keep the game within reach. The Lakers even trailed by double-digits again, 101-91, with 3:26 remaining before storming back to tie the game at 101 and send it to overtime. While it took two overtimes for the Lakers to completely overcome the deficit for good, they ultimately walked away with a 128-124 victory in the first leg of a pivotal six-game road trip down the final stretch of the regular season.
