LeBron James has had a great four months. How many players have done what James has the chance to do before? Let’s recap what James has accomplished in the last four months: NBA MVP, NBA Finals MVP and NBA Champion. He also put Team USA in prime position to win the Gold Medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics.  If you knew Lithuania’s basketball history, you knew they weren’t going to go quietly when they faced the Americans yesterday. They are good shooters, scrappy and tough. They shot 58.5% from the field yesterday and outscored the Americans in two of the four quarters.  But if it wasn’t for James, Team USA would have been in serious trouble late in the fourth quarter. After a Deron Williams layup put Team USA up 87-84 with 4:30 left, Darius Songalia came right back and made a two-point shot in the lane, pulling Lithuania back to within one point at 87-86.  That’s when LeBron took over. After scoring 11 points through the first three quarters, James drained a three-point basket to give

LeBron James carries the US past Lithuania to avoid upset

After one of the best performance in Olympics men’s basketball history the US struggled in there game after against Lithuania. Lithuania has a history of giving the US fits. Lithuanian beat the US in the 2004 Olympics. At the end thought the US was able to pull out the 99 to 94 victory. The star of today’s game was no question LeBron James. Lithuania had a 2 point...

LeBron James was glad USA was “tested” with Lithuania

Saturday’s game left patriotic basketball viewers on the edge of their seat because, for a brief moment, it looked as if Team USA may lose an international match on their quest to Olympic gold. However, the United States of America has something no other country has: LeBron James. LeBron James entered cheat mode and [...]

What would Jeremy Lin do as an NBA GM? Trade himself for LeBron James, duh!

Now that Lin-Sanity is over and done with, well as far as New York City is concerned, Jeremy Lin can concentrate on the important aspects of his career as a Houston Rocket. At the moment he is marketing himself overseas in Taiwan and is being presented with a slew of questions, but the most [...]

Kevin Durant Leaves Argentina Crying Helpless on the Olympic Floor; USA Defeats Argentina 126-97

Despite the tenacious Team Argentina and the fact the score was dead even, there was a magical third quarter that occurred — well magical for Team USA, it was curse-laden for the Argentinians. Thanks must to Kevin Durant. Melo had his explosive game. LeBron James had his clutch game. This game or more the [...]

USA survives scare against Lithuania

They got a game - and then some. The Americans got a scare. Two days after running and gunning to a record-shattering 83-point win, the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team had to come back in the fourth quarter for a 99-94 win over a fearless Lithuania team that had the world's best squad in serious trouble until the closing minutes. LeBron James scored 9 of his 20 points...

United States of America-Argentina Preview

No looking ahead to the medal round yet. Not when Argentina is the next opponent for the U.S. men's basketball team. Not even if the game is largely meaningless for the Americans. The U.S. technically hasn't clinched the top seed in its pool yet but the Americans would have to lose Monday by the kind of monstrous margin they usually beat teams by to fall out of first place...

U.S. men's basketball survives vs. Lithuania

By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports WriterLONDON (AP) -- Still unbeaten, but perhaps more importantly, the U.S. is no longer untested. The Americans got a game against Lithuania -- and then some. They got a scare. Two days after running and gunning to a record-shattering 83-point win, the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team had to come back in the fourth quarter for a 99-94 win over a...

Abby Wambach Cites LeBron James' Cramps While Sticking by Gatorade Endorsement at Olympics

Abby Wambach is increasingly loyal to her Gatorade endorsement, and she has plenty of reasons why. While there's always the chance that a sip from the wrong soda can will strip an athlete of major sponsorship money (here's looking at you, Ronaldinho), Wambach isn't just staying with Gatorade out of fear. On Sunday, Wambach moved bottles of Coke and Powerade away from...

Westbrook’s monster dunk : Carmelo takes a low blow

On a team full of NBA stars there is no question that Russell Westbrook is the most athletic of the bunch. Westbrook’s combination of speed, explosiveness, jumping ability, and strength are hard to match. In Team USA’s win over Argentina yesterday Westbrook put all these skills on display with a monster dunk. In the 4th quarter Westbrook received a pass from LeBron...

Red Had the Answer to Flopping Years Ago

David Stern has had much to say about flopping recently. He's been threatening to do something about it for the past couple of years. In the meantime, LeBron James has made flopping into an art form. The refs too often fall for the acting jobs and reward the flopper with free throws. If they fell for the academy award winning performances in the video above, how will they...

Random Thoughts on KG, JJ, Doc and More

Back in December, the Globe reported that Kevin Garnett was purchasing a minor stake in Roma LLC, a soccer club recently purchased by a US group that includes owners Thomas DiBenedetto of the Red Sox and James Pallotta of the Celtics. KG is a knowledgeable soccer fan and plays the game as part of his off-season conditioning program. LeBron James recently made a similar investment...
