LeBron James on Friday vehemently shot down a report indicating he would have some interest in meeting with the Golden State Warriors this coming offseason, calling it a “non-story.”

James’ purported interest joining the Warriors sent shock waves through the NBA when it was reported Thursday. The report, from Chris Haynes of ESPN.com, suggested if the Warriors “can create a max-salary slot this offseason, the defending NBA champions could position themselves to secure a meeting with LeBron James.”

James reportedly would agree to a meting “out of respect for the Warriors’ winning culture,” Haynes added in his report.

But to hear it from James, it’s a bunch of “nonsense.”

“The fact [the report says] that ‘LeBron’s willing to sit down,’ I saw that part — LeBron never said that,” James said, via WKYC.com. “I never said that. I never said that I would sit down with Golden State or sit down with anybody. I’ve never talked about any other team throughout my journey.”

“… The Golden State conversation is a non-story. All the other conversations is a non-story,” James added. “My focus right now is on this team and trying to figure out how we can get back to a fourth NBA Finals and compete for a championship."

The notion that James would even deign to joining the Warriors, the Cavs’ fiercest rival, is a strange one, not to mention be viewed as profoundly unsettling for the rest of the NBA.

Still, James requested the media not ask him about his future beyond this season for the time being.

“Everything else — if it’s not about this team, if you want to ask me about this team, I can answer it good, bad or ugly. But please, the rest of the season, don’t ask me about nothing else, no other team unless we’re competing against them the next night or a highlight that happened on the floor,” James said. “Don’t ask me about being on the team or another team because it’s unfair to my teammates here, the 14 teammates that come here to work hard, the coaching staff and this fan base.”
