PLAYERS: LeBron JamesRomeo Travis
TEAMS: Miami Heat
AKRON, Ohio - Last weekend, LeBron James had to stand silently and watch his opponent spray champagne in a wild victory celebration. Kickball tournaments, apparently, are serious business when a four-time NBA MVP shows up -- wearing what looks to be a hat straight out of the Miami Heat's on-court NBA championship celebration. Organizers kept it under wraps, but they expected James to participate in the fourth annual charity kickball tournament at the Erie Island fields in Akron, not far from where James grew up. He did, adding a little sizzle to the event that benefits Akron's Young Black Professionals Coalition and that group's annual back to school drive. In August, the money raised through donations at the event will help fund another event that will allow 1,000 Akron Public Schools students to get new backpacks and haircuts just before the 2013-14 school year begins. Steve King, who works with the YBPC, said the presence of James might not have brought in any extra m...

Tim Hardaway in favor of gay marriage

Six years ago, in an interview with Dan LeBatard, former Miami Heat guard Tim Hardaway announced loudly and unequivocally that he was anti-gay. Hardaway didn’t want gay teammates, public displays of gay affection, or to even be in the presence of gay people. In his own words, he was a homophobe. In the intervening years, it seems that Hardaway has done some soul searching, and...

NBA's first three-peat coach, John Kundla, pulling for Heat

Pat Riley has gone so far as to trademark the term "three-peat." But it doesn't mean much to John Kundla. You could say Kundla was the original author of the three-peat. He coached the Minneapolis Lakers to titles from 1952-54, making them the first NBA team to win three championships in a row.Since then, only two other NBA coaches have won three straight, and Riley...

Tim Hardaway supports gay marriage petition in Florida

When Tim Hardaway made anti-gay comments in 2007, he soon offered a mea culpa. But he hasnt stopped there.Rather than simply apologize and move on, the former Miami Heat star point guard has taken action. He continues to spread a message that he has changed his ways.Further evidence came Wednesday night. Hardaway, who retired in 2003, was scheduled at a Miami-area restaurant to become...

As we enter the summer months of the NBA off-season, the fine folks over at the association’s YouTube page decided to put together a compilation of the best video bombs from the past preseason/regular season. To note, expect to see a lot Miami’s Chris Bosh since he’s clearly gotten the “video bomb” down to an art form:

Here’s video of a kid using a chicken as a basketball because sports (VIDEO)

Would someone please explain to me just what is going on with that kid shooting a chicken through a basketball hoop? I mean, is this real life? Is there a subculture in America where people play sports using fowl and other assorted animals? You know, I’m not even that offended that this kid used a chicken for a basketball, as much as I’m offended that no one called this little...
