Ty Lue is taking full responsibility for the Los Angeles Clippers’ 129-108 road loss against the Utah Jazz in their opening game of the 2025-26 NBA season. It was the biggest loss by the team in a season opener in 17 years.

The Los Angeles Clippers head coach pointed to the team’s lackluster defense as a major reason for the loss. For context, the Utah Jazz, who  only won 17 games last season, shot 55.2 percent from the field and had more rebounds (46-38) and assists (38-28) than their LA-based counterparts.

“If our first unit can’t get off to better defensive starts, subs will be made faster… It’s a learning experience, just kind of see what our team is made of. If I got to make early subs from here on out, then that’s what we gotta do,” Lue warned via Law Murray of The Athletic.

“I take responsibility for that bulls**t,” he emphasized.

Los Angeles Clippers News: John Collins explains what went wrong in the opening loss vs. Utah Jazz

Los Angeles Clippers (and former Utah Jazz) forward John Collins pointed to the team’s lack of “correct energy” as the main reason for last night’s embarrassing road defeat.

“Approach is important. As well as execution. I always say, energy is important. We just have to come out with the correct energy. And just attack our opponents… Might have been a little bit too relaxed, too chill. Good thing about the season, we got 81 left,” Collins explained.

Collins was one of the bright spots for the Los Angeles Clippers. In his debut, he produced 14 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks on 6-for-12 shooting from the field in 28 minutes off the bench.
